wow.... coming from toronto to LA for the weekend has been sick... loving every minute of this great city...

first off, avalon is an amazing club... the sound system rawks and the crowd was awesome... everyone was totally up for it.

sasha was amazing... it was great to finally see his new abelton set-up... damn he really is a legend and he had the place freaking out the whole night... really up for it crowd and was one of the better time's i've seen sasha.

steve porter, as expected blew me away.... wow... this guy is probably my favourite dj right now... played pretty hard for him and pretty techy, but it was sick... had the place freakin out and definately still brough the porter funk... top notch.

going home tonight... thanks LA you rule and are lucky to have mr. sasha as a resident.

howard.

I caught the last 2 and a half hours of Sasha's set. It was actually quite good this time. The trick imo is to not be there from the beginning to the end. I spent the previous 6 hours at Spundae listening to Grant Plant, Rank 1, and Markus Schulz - so Sasha was a good way to finish things off. Slower - Chunkier - Ableton grooves. :)

holy ...sasha & porter. amazing. that's all i can say...i thought sash & zabs killed it...god damn! glad i made it out to this. oh btw sasha's last little mini set was amazing. i can't believe he played orbital - halcyon & on. he ended with the killers - mr brightside (JLC mix) and did his little "1 more? 1more?" everyone was like "uhm yeah!"

his "1 more" turned into another 40 mins...to the tunes of:

sasha - xpander (crazy ass sasha mix)
unknown - yeka yeka (i think thats the name of this song)
felix da housecat - watching cars go by (again sasha with some crazy mixing)
orbital - halcyon & on

mmm how is he gonna top this in may?! we shal see.

ps
sasha was also doing a lot of wavy gravy sampling in his set...quite cool

did porter open for sasha or were they tag teaming?
Hypersky
Not sure if that was Porter up there at the end, but there was definitely some tag teaming going on.

sasha got on at midnight... had the place going bananas, i think porter came on at 1:30 ish... played a lot of his stuff from his kiss mix... sasha came back on at around 3:30.. then played till 5.. then porter and sasha tagged till 6ish i think... and the last hour was amaizng.

looked like porter played the last record, surface to air by chemical brothers... such a dope track...

Cheers,
Howard.
dj_bas
OHHHH it was a chemical bros track...i thought it was smashing pumpkins. crap now my girlfriend is gonna beat me up.

yeah sasha played for about an hour or hour and a half. then porter for about the same. then sasha for a while...then some awesome tag teaming going on. but toward the end up the night it was definetly sasha. good stuff

Sasha's use of the Jacque Lu Cont mix of Mr. Brightside toward the end of his sets really galvanizes the emotion in the room. Its such a brilliant track to wind down a grueling set with. Very impressive.

yeah but he's closed with it every month since december...time for a new one i would say

Hypersky
True, though it still works for me since I only see him once every 3 months or so. :)
CleverName
some other songs I recognized
Juliet - Avalon during Sasha's first set
Utah Saints - Lost Vagueness
Wavy Gravy
xpander
yeke yeke
watching cars go by
Halcyon and on

I also recognized a few songs that he played in the recorded set from Pacha last August, the 6 hour one with zabiela and him back to back. I can't id them now though, forgot which ones they were :(

Amazing night, Avalon is a great club. I was a little annoyed at the inside smoking ban, but it's probably better that I didn't. I think I had 3 cigs the whole night when otherwise I would have finished the pack.

I just might have to fly out for his closing 5/28 :D Overall, totally worth the trip!
