THIS is way cool!!
Can someone tell me why haven't I heard about this thing before? Why aren't Vestax promoting hell out of it? Is it available here in the UK? How much is it? |

It's not so cool... the vinyl it cuts are ruined very easily, and the sound isn't as good as original vinyls.
Plus it costs about 8000$ - yeah, that's right!, 8K!!!, and an "empty" vinyl is about 10$.. about the same as an original.
So it'll take time 'till something that compares to a vinyl pressing machine will come.. 'till then, all we have to do is wait and keep buyin' vinyls. |

apparently if you talk when the vinyl is cutting it will record it as there is supposed to be total silence when it cuts.
so its not best to record if you have a noisy little sister in the house like me. |

Yeah done a bit more research now ... it was supposed to be released in October (but I ain't seen one yet?). It will cost $10,000 US or about £6,500 UK, and the blank vinyls will be available in black or white and will cost about $7 each. They are made of some new wonder plastic and are supposed to be just as durable as normal vinyl once recorded.
Imagine how cool it would be though ... no more searching for rare unobtainable vinyls that cost 100s of quid, just cut them straight from Audiogalaxy onto the vinyls ... no more having to wait for 3 months after Jules has thrashed them to before you can get all the cool tracks on vinyl ... you could have the record bag from hell ... man I better get writing to Santa quick :D:D |

| You can also just go to a dubplatecutter and get a dubplate of your recording (acetate, NOT VINYL, one vinyl cutting would cost a small fortune) for about 100 guilders ($40 ?) |

i'd hate to burst your bubble, but you couldn't just record an mp3 straight to vinyl and then spin it at a party/club. you could very well get sued by the label of the song. if you profit from spinning a song, you have to be clear with the label first, which is what happens when you buy vinyl in the store. if you just cut it directly to vinyl and then spin it and get paid, you could get sued for copyright infringement if someone found out...
but its still an awesome idea that everyone's thought about at one time or another.;) |
