and I need to figure out what cable I need to connect my mixer to it. What type do I need to connect the MiniDisc player to my mixer, and where exactly on the mixer does the cable go?

tried recording to my mini disc and works good, although i still record my proper mixes through computer because of a good sound card.

mine is SONY(MZ-NF810) MINI DISC RECORDER.

Alright you need a cable which has 2 RCA's LEFT AND RIGHT channel.
the two rca's go into your record or master out in the mixer.
then the other end goes into your optical line in of the mini disc.
the plug size needs to be 1/8th jack i think that is the standard size of a normal headphone input. IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE OPTICAL INPUT AS IT TAKES BOTH FORMS.

any more question pm me.

any one else use mini disc.

i dont generally plug mine in the master, but try that or the monitor channel, because you can change the volume on both, but generally the record channel has the right output volume, so myself, id plug it into the record out.

let the master do its thing.

yes, i believe you should use your master out for your normal speaker setup, and the RECORD out for recording, as the name states.

i believe the REC out cut the signal off at 0dB, disallowing clipping in the recording. not sure though. try to stay at 0 either way.

you'll need an RCA -> 1/8th jack cable, as already mentioned. or at radio shack, you can buy adaptors, they have the RCA plugs, female, and a 1/8th jack (just like a Y-splitter type thing, only instead of being 2 more inputs, you have a red and white RCA input). these work well too.

i dont like MD. i have 3 MD recorders and not a single one of them does what i need them to do. i got inot this whole thing to have a small partable device that i can record with and then download to my computer. well unless you are running a digital input to the recorder, it wont download digitally. it has to go in analog from the headphone out to the soundcard. well WTF is the point in having digital recording, if i just have to transfer it back to analog to get it on my computer. on my recorder, the only source that can be recorded and then DLed to comp, is if you are coming S/PDIF optical into that little headphone jack. but ive been trying to find the cable for about a year now.

ive given up on MD, just go buy a nice little interface. a lexicon omega or tascam us-122 or something.
