Agreed, but I don't think the Blue Sky remix would have been too appropriate in this part of the mix, if the Blue Sky remix was slotted in before Twisted that's really the only time that would have been appropriate, but the Blue Sky remix is a bastard to mix as the song jumps in quickly and releases quickly. Have you got decks Eugene, if you have get the Step Back vinyl, now @ juno, and see how hard it is to mix, well I find it hard to mix ;) |

yes, I know.
Another song that's really hard to mix is NuNRG - Dreamland, it just finishes off abruptly. |

too rightz, i thing jan johnson - flesh (tiesto mix) is rock 2 mix aswell, coz it doesn't follow the usual rules, when the melody should finish it just starts going again. |

The problem that AndiH described (and I noticed it too) is that you matched the beats, but not the beginnings of each song's measure. The loud "crash-drum" signalling the beginning of the next measure occurs on the NEXT beat :) |
i would be the first to admit a mistake, but I just can't hear this one:conf:. There are two reasons that could explain why you think it's off. The "I'm coming" vocal sets in before beat "1" it starts at beat 29 of the last bar and then in the "Bush" track there is a double beat on the record, like "bumbum" = 31 32 0.5 1, so it sounds as if the beat "stumbles".
But if you keep counting from the "1" after the "future's coming" part you should notice that it works out. It's hard to describe things that you hear and feel, but now that 2 experienced DJs told me the same thing, I'm really confused. Getting the structure of the songs matched is very important to me bacause it makes the mix more fluid...
Anyway, thank you all for your reviews. And Boy Luke 2k, that's exactly the reason why I used this remix. It is the harder part of the set and the Blue Sky version didn't fit in there.
I actually like it better, too! |

oh I never found "dreamland" very hard to mix. I attached the transition from my May 2001 set.
But I totally agree on Jan Johnson...not only the melody later, but also the sounds and rhythm in the beginning were very tricky.
EDIT: NEVERMIND, it didn't attach...I've made it only 430k so it should work. Maybe it's because Swamper changed something:conf: |

you're not the only one having problems with attachments, i can't attach anything at the mo. :(, swamps did say something about changing/fixing attachments a bit ago, but i can't remember. |

dawn,
First of all thanks for the NuNRG sample. I thought it was hard to mix because at the very end the synths just "level off" and there is a pause. There is a "tail" after that pause, with simple kicks and bass, but it's kind of short and not very natural -- if you bring a different bassline in, the change may be noticeable...
Regarding the 14:58 issue, I now think that I was wrong, everything is right. It's just that the song that follows has a pretty loud snare (2nd drum); this is especially clear at 15:08-15:18, for example. So I got the impression that, during the mix, there were 2 consecutive loud drums. But in reality the measures are matched correctly! Sorry about that...
Once again, an excellent mix, energy-packed and melodic. |

btw is it just me or did you miss a beat at 14:58? |
I don't think he has actually missed a beat, the way I hear it is that during Future there is a dual crash cymbal, and that sounds a bit odd during mixing. I have a similar error when I mix Johan Gielen - Velvet Moods (Tiësto Mix) and Gouryella - Tenshi, because the crashes are slightly offset. Have a listen to Trance Nation 5/2001 where Ferry does that mix and the crashes are slightly off. I have to say now that I've listened to it fully, I much prefer it to last months set, I prefer the tunes, more epic and uplifting. Last month's set was too hard for me, never stopped it getting into my walkman for a couple of weeks though. I also prefer your style of mixing in this set as it is less energetic and some of the changes are longer and sound excellent. I also really like the sampling you have done. It's not often I get up at 8:00 after having 6 cans last night to listen to a mix, but I'm glad I did :D And congatulations, its one of the best mixes I have heard in a while, in this so called 'dead period of trance,' to me if there are still people who really like this music, it will never die. |
