Looking for apartment in SF ... HELP!

So on Sunday I went apartment hunting...just so you know I'm looking for a studio appartment within reasonable distance of the bay bridge (I'll be communting OUT of SF every morning) for about $1400-$1450 including parking. Since I'm moving in summer, at this point I'm looking through the big places that will be likely to have availability at a later time.
I see a few that I don't even bother to get out of my car for, a few that were eh, and Soma Residences, Fox Plaza, and Fillmore Center, which I liked the most. I go home liking the last three but wanting to do more research... I then find that Fox Plaza and Fillmore Center are the most hated and talked about places on apartmentratings.com. And now I'm just confused.
After more research I'm probably not going to Fox Plaza or Fillmore, unless anyone here knows anything about them that might be useful. Basically, can anyone shout out a few recommendations for me to look into? Places you live or places you've seen that you could recommend at least to check out. Thanks |

I live in the Fillmore Center. Nice place. No doubt. The problem with it is that it's right against Western Addition...a not so great area. I grew up in a not so great area so it's never really bothered me. I knew about the area before moving in...couldn't pass up the free first months rent and only $250 (my half) deposit to move in. :p
A chunk of the apartments are also Section 8 (lots of laws around here state that percentages of aparments must be section 8 if in certain neighborhoods), which turn some peeps off.
I understand that management used to be diffuclt here, too, but I believe it changed shortly before I moved in last September and they've been very responsive to any issues and I personally haven't run into any issues.
So yeah, nice place..just shady area.
There's not many "apartments" in San Francsco...most places are flats...and yeah, there are buildings with like 6 apartments in them...yeahhh...
I'd recommend looking in inner richmond. Loved that area when I lived there. Easy to get everywhere and not many problems.
BTW, do not judge a place from the outside. I've lived in places that don't look so great from the outside but are stellar on the inside. |

On another note, heard to gunshots earlier...I'll even go as far as to say I think they were shotgun shots...in the apartments right across the street. Could see the cops, ambulance, big crowd forming, crime scene tape, etc right from my balcony.
Did I tell you about the five shots fired about a half block away from me a couple months ago...walked out on the balcony, saw the cops storming out and heard someone saying "five rounds" something on his radio....believe it was an attempted drive by...the shooters nor the person being shot at ever known.
This neighborhood rox!!! :-p
Dave
ps. There's a police station right across the street from me. I live in a top floor penthouse suite. :p |

| Damn I miss the city:( Had to move to socal for a better job.) I spent alot of time in SF and have/had alot of friends in the area. I love the mood at 2am-5am....so nice:tongue2 The steam rising out of the manholes, and towering new buildings mixed with old buildings. The smell of freash bay breeze. These are really happy thoughts. If I had the job I have now in SF Id really be in a happy place:cool: So many memories in such a unique place.....I hope you can find a place:gsmile: |

I know how you feel man. I will be blunt and say the scene in Southern California is such a sham...so superficial and shallow. If you try to explain this to the natives who dont travel much....well they just don't get it.
Places like Sf or NY in the US have character and the people are SO MUCH cooler and cosmopolitan. It seems like 80% in the club scene down here are morons and so uptight. Seriously, I remember partying like crazy up in the Bay Area and met so many nice friendly people w/ no attitude. So Cal on the other hand...lol...people have some retarded stiff upper lip. I have no clue why
I travelled to Europe recently and the parties there are the best ever.
Well wasnt there a rock song that came out years ago called " Southern Calfornia"...the chorus line said this...
"Why did I move to Southern California?"
Oh back to the topic...I would def check out the Fillmore Center. Hahah I still have my parking lot car |

| Just wanted to toss in my two bits. I live at Shipley Square and it's been pretty good. May be a little pricey, but when I moved in they offered 2 months rent free on a 14 month lease. It's on Folsom b/w 4th and 5th. |
