Hi, sorry I can't post a sample but everyones probably heard tiesto-traffic anyway. After the second breakdown but before the voices come in there is about 20 seconds of plain percussion. Anyway, during this part of the track the kick really thickens up I think because of some percussion placed on top of it.
I am just wondering how this effect was created.
Thank you
Actually a sample may be included. |

errm what do you mean with voices? :) there is actually no voice in Traffic I believe....
anyway as far as I remember there's nothing but gazillion of hats (closed and open) and some claps...but that's pretty much everything I believe ;) |

there are voices during about the last 45 seconds of the track but it is the period just before this that I am asking about.
Listen carefully to the kick during this period. |

no, i think there is a voice. it's a scratchy type sound bit (album version [just be] :48 and 5:02). i don't think it says anything though.
the percussion is definately background. it doesn't stand out too much in the mix, but it's definately present enough. and it seems to have a sort of swing to it. just load up a bunch of patterns under different filters and eq, pan, and maybe humanize. |

Thanks for posting that sample.
The part that I am talking about starts at about the thirty five second mark of the sample but is clearer later. |

It's hard to make out what effect was used... It sounds like it could be a combination of effects. When I used to copy tracks when I was younger I would just use a few different things such as a reverb/chorus thrown in with a tube distortion or harmonic Resinator. But yeah good luck on that one man. It's hard to make out that it's even a voice!!!! |

| What he did there was use the same kick but in reverse...you can actually here both kicks phasing each other a little bit. I hope that's what you were looking for...the only extra thickness I heard was the same kick but reversed going at the same time as the normal one. :) |

| I think he's talking about the lo-fi voice at like 1:16 or so. You can achieve such an effect with a vocoder rather easily. |

| I am talking about what Rico described and yeah, I too think it sounds like a kick has been reversed on top of the normal kick. Its hard to get it right though and I'm not even completely sure that this is the right method. |

| The beats are a bit crazy could be any number of them in there, all treated and messed with loads. Rico sounds like hes got it bout right. Where's Tijs studio engineer when you need him eh? :whip: |
