Go look at the servers by sun or HP quad opterons, that should set him back around 20k. If you really want a supercomputer then I suggest cray or IBM p series which is analogous to the RS/6000 line of old.
And btw supercomputers don't cost 15k, i think that will be the lesson of the day.

why go SLI so soon when AMD dual core's are to be released soon?
Granted SLI technology is dope, hands down it gets my props, but dual core processors and SLI chipsets would rock. not to mention ATI's coming to age of dual channel memory video cards...heh |
I will probably do an upgrade next year. I will wait for pricing to come down for it will probably cost a load. It will probably become dominant in the market in 2006, so until then im happy with what ive got. ANyways my core isnt the best out there; My processor is not an athlon 64FX, I got the run of the mill 64-bit processor because its heaps cheaper. ;) |

Bill Gates supposed to release Windows 2006 by end of year. Biggest upgrade in operating system since Windows 95. Moves file systems from 32 bit to 64 bit. Will need to see benchmarks on how chips actually perform against the demands. Athlon 64 was introduced over a year ago as a cure, but it could all be hogwash since chip was never tested against reality. Intel has some on the shelf ready for realease. I'm going to wait myself for the dramatic new OS. Recommend you wait as well, and buy something low end in the meantime.

You mean Windows Longhorn? I talked to someone that works at Microsoft around August and he said it could be out by mid to end 2006, I guess the release date changed :p
Lol, and I'm def not gonna get it for a while, at least not in the first 6 months... |

Trust me, Longhorn will not be the name Microsoft uses on its release. 64 bit too good to be true. Granted, other OS have gone through bumps, but I'll bump up front on this upgrade. Believe developers stalled release for backward compatability. If it requires minimum 2.5G to run and average computer off the shelf below that, then no market for new system. In the last year and half, average off the shelf (which would ship with new 06 OS) is now getting above their minimum threshold.
