SoundForge 6.0 problems...

I have soundforge, but it sucks for me. Everytime I record, it bogs down my system hella... and then there's these "gaps" all throughout the mix. I think i got the right sys. req. for it... right now I have about 300 megs RAM and an Athlon 1.5ghz processor.. it's in a laptop though. any suggestions? or alternatives?

edit- and I also have an M-audio audiophile USB card that i've tried recording to with the same results.

ive had the same problem with soundforge for myself. wont have anything running...and somehow it manages to bog down my system and get major gaps.

should clean up my system and defrag the hard drive.. hopefully it works

try recording into something else, SOundforge is a bit processor heavy and you only need a simple recorder. chuck the mix into the forge after to edit tho.

maksure you have the latest driver from M audio installed (they are always fiddling with them) and that driver is properly set up in sound forge. Then try switching off all the non essential processes in task manager (Ctrl, alt, del) and do a disk cleanup and defrag.

go to www.musicxp.net for some great tweaks to optimise your computer for audio!

not enough ram, imo

An 80 minute mix turns into what a 700 meg wav file?

Maybe you need more "virtual memory"

id guess it gets choppier at the end of the mix?

yeah, i've closed all non-essential processes in task manager... and yes, it does get choppier at the end of the mix.. but it starts cutting out about 6 minutes in. anyways i think i resolved the problem- i'm recording in HDOGG and editing in soundforge. thanks for the input guys
