I often hear people with substance abuse problems tell me that they can enjoy life sober. That they can go to a restaurant without drinking they just choose not to. A smoker saying he can quit whenever he wants. It becomes like hearing a broken record which becomes less convincing over time.

Eh, just because people with abuse problems say that doesn't mean that people without problems can't say it.

And your whole reasoning is a little off. You are saying if someone is going to a club for music, they can't drink any alcohol, do any drugs (I am guessing you are gonna limit this to illicit drugs and not like headache or legally prescribed drugs), or anything. But I go to bars to chat with my friends, that doesn't mean im not gonna drink, I got ot parties to pick up chicks, that doesn't mean Im not gonna drink, I also go to clubs for music, doesn't mean im not gonna drink, I also go to parties to play music, that doens't mean im not gonna drink.

I think what I am alluding to is that people don't go to clubs for one reason, althoguh they may verbalize, im going to a club for the music, there are many many things they actually wanna do. Its just not pragmatic to say them all.

^I've never seen guys like at the raves where I've been :toothless

I've never used drugs or became drunk at raves, because that's my own choice. Some of my friends do E, though, and that's their responsibility. I heared drugs makes you feel the music more, makes you more free and happy and stuff. It's a little bit blunt to say 'People who use drugs/get drunk don't care about the music'. I think it's important to also include emotions, feelings and if people need stuff to enhance that. Let that be their choice.

same with me i don believe in those 50 yr old people fuked up running into me and think they can pick up 18yr olds.I go simply for the dj and music. People always assume im on E cuz im having a good time fuken sterotypes:mad:

Is it so hard for you lot to comprehend that some of us go to the shows for the music and that substances simply enhance the experience? Jesus, I don't think it's that hard of a concept.

Haha maybe it's bad that I can't remember back before I started doing it because it's been so long :stongue:

I agree. Ive always been in it just for the dj and the music. I have never taken E so I cant really say much about it, and I probably never will take it. I get on an emotional high from the music and the vibe alone, for me I just dont have a desire to take any drugs. Once in a while I will have a couple drinks, and more often if I'm at a club where there is no special guest dj and I am just hangin with some friends.

Deserved a quote. Pretty much how I feel about the situation. Whether you do it or not is your call. Judging someone by saying if they do then they arent in it for the music is absurd. Just like saying, well if you love someone then you shouldnt need to have sex with them. Being with them and emotionally loving them with feelings should be all you need.

To me, if you can't go to a club without needing more than a few drinks or dropping E then you aren't there for the music. Do you get drunk on your own or dose at home when you're listening to your EDM? If no then why do you feel the need to have to do it everytime you go out when the experience is 10x better and should be enough.

Oh for 's sake, get off the soap-box. Are there people who overdo it at clubs? Sure. Are there people that seem to be in it more for the drugs than the music? Absolutely. Does that mean that you are right to lump everyone that has ever taken a drug in a club (including alcohol) in the same boat? Absolutely not.

I take E occasionally (1-2 times a month, if that) and I drink fairly frequently when I'm out clubbing as well. I also listen to music for several hours a day, without fail, while not on any of these substances and due to the fact that I live about 20-25 minutes from the city, I also have to club it sober occasionally as well. While there are definitely some parts of some nights that I can't remember, I'm always there for the music and if it wasn't for the music, I wouldn't be there at all. If I was all about just going out and getting ed up (as you seem to presume that people who take drugs are), I'd go to a commercial club where there's a better chance of meeting women, at least, wouldn't I? However, even though I can appreciate the music I like in any state of mind, there is no doubt that a moderate amount of intoxication makes the night just that much more enjoyable (being too intoxicated is not much fun either, though fwiw). It's easier to get into the feel of the night, you feel less self-conscious dancing and - yes - it can make the music sound even better at times.

As for what you've said, it's ridiculous to compare sitting in front of the computer listening to winamp with actually being out in a club environment with a bunch of close friends and hundreds of people you don't know. You can still be in it for the music and have a few beers and maybe a pill to enhance social cohesion, can't you? Being out sober and listening to the music you love on a decent system is more fun than sitting at home, for sure, but being out sober in a club results in chin-stroking towards the back - for me at least - which can be fun, but not nearly as much fun as actually loosening up a bit, getting involved in the night and appreciating the music I love at the same time. You may say that you're only going out clubbing to listen to music, but then - I ask - what's the difference between going out and listening to music that may or may not be to your tastes (depending on how the DJs perform) on a big system and staying at home listening to music that you can customise to your tastes on a big system (if you have one)?

Then you procede to say: "drinking makes you feel great, so does E but why not do it in a place or at a time when you're not in such an enjoyable place as it is"? This, to me, makes no sense - if you can have fun sober, you shouldn't have more fun by drinking or taking drugs? When is an acceptable time to indulge then - only when you're on your own and extremely bored? You should only take drugs to create fun, never to enhance it? What the kind of a thing is that to imply?

If you don't want to take drugs or drink, then that's your choice. No-one can take that away from you. When, however, you take your straight-edge attitude and begin to cast aspersions on anyone that's ever taken a mind-altering substance at a club, then you'r just making yourself look foolish. If you enjoy the music then you shouldn't really care what everyone else is doing - isn't that the kind of philosophy you should be adhering to? Or wouldn't I understand, seeing as I don't appreciate the music as much as you?

Couldn't have said it any better myself, cheers.
