Maybe you having Polish as your mother language makes it rather strange, to you, that a completely meaningless word in your native conception, is the most used one.
It's also strange to me that "it" is more used than "I", for example, when languages are majorly used to describe one's perceptions. In Portuguese, we don't even have a word to replace "it" (we often translate "it" as "this") as we could simply say "Is raining" or "I like".
I remember that one day, I asked a Russian friend of mine how they could use a language without "the" or "a(n)", and she thought it was even weirder that I had difficulty formulating thoughts without these words.
I, for example, can't understand how people in English can live happily with so few verbal tenses and little gender difference (you wouldn't know my friend was a girl until I replaced the word "friend" for a pronoun).
This was a serious thread, right? :p |
