I picked up 100% Trance at B&N a while back and I decided to review it. I'm new here, but have been listening to various forms of electronica. I started off listening to ocremix.org and vgmix.com songs.
100% Trance is pretty cool. The CD starts off with Pulpvictim's "The World", which is awesome. It has vocals in the background and sounds great on headphones. That synthesizer sounds awesome.
"G-Dreams" is in a dream-trance style and again has vocals. ("I know your dreams!")
Future Funland was pretty nice, one of those songs that you think is finished, but then see that there's another minute to go.
Angel by The Groove Council was pretty nice. It's very relaxing and has some sweet vocals.
"Freshly Squeezed" by Stef was my favorite. It starts out with a nice synthesized beat and a "splashy" sound from time to time. The song gradually picks up and the drums start. Then the song reaches the first climax and bursts into a psychedelic frenzy. Awesome stuff.
The rest of the songs are pretty nice, but not anything memorable.
I'm new to mainstream trance and I'm also looking for some suggestions. I heard Astral Projection's Kabalah and Mahadeva and loved what I heard. People Can Fly was awesome too. I'm into the psychedelic stuff like that (goa), but with a nice fast beat. Any specific songs I should check out? |

Okay, two suggestions in the nicest way I can put it...
This belongs in the cd review thread, not here.
Also, never, eeeever, pick up those 100% trance compilations or "Fired Up" things like that that you can find at Best Buy. They are usually the bargain basement that is more often than not, a rushed prodcution, and thusly, terrible.
And I, myself, am not a huge goa/psy fan. So I can't really suggest artists in that area... just don't get those dern store compilations because they're icky :o |

Seems like you're into oldschool goa. Lots of stuff to check out in that category, some recommended artists:
Man With No Name
Cosmosis
Electric Universe
Indoor
Juno Reactor
Hallucinogen
Transwave
Doof
Dimension 5
Green Nuns Of The Revolution
There's lots more as well, but this should give you something to start on. Also check out http://www.psynews.org. |
