Oliver Lieb is king when it comes to percussion in trance.

But then, Oliver Lieb is king when it comes to almost everything in trance.

1. this thread should be in the production forum

2. Oliver Lieb doesn't use snare rolls

3. snare rolls are about the easiest thing to create. you only have to make sure you've got a good sample

You start off slow, and then you make it go faster.

Have the snares playing 8ths for 4 bars, 16ths for 2 bars and 32nds for 2 bars. this would give you a bog standard 8 bar snare roll.

Not if you throw a bit of variation there. You can start by ditching the age-old 909 snare and replacing it with something else. Then add some variations to, say, every 4th bar. Don't use the standard 4/8/16/32 progression, make it completely random (in a way where it sounds good, not all over the place). Then, instead of having it fading upwards like usual you can have it coming in at full volume, fading out and then fading back in again.

Honestly, it only takes so little to make something bog standard fresh. It just takes a bit of experimentation and creativity... which is something you can't ask how to do on a messageboard.
