Playing mp3's has it's advantages since they don't skip or crackle. Nothing erks me more than hitting an offbeat skip in the middle of a mix!

They sound . end of.

A very very very large difference between MP3 and an audio cd or a wav.

ever heard of skipping/scratched CDs? That can be quite terrible

But question.... do cdr's with mp3s burned on them ( as FILES not AUDIO ) if they're scratched .... do they skip the same way a cd could?

Without experiance I would suspect worse, just because of the data density involved. That is the whole point of using an mp3 is that it puts more data in a smaller space. If a similar surface of that data space is ed more tuneage will be ed (highly technical you understand :D ). Just because more tunage is packed onto a smaller space. No error correction is involved.

well, a scratched mp3 CD will NOT NECESSARILY skip, although it can just as well. in any case, it might do a slight stutter (which is a very small skip really), but most of the time, you'll just get added bleeps and sporadic noises if the scratches aren't too bad.

wrong...don't know where u get MP3's from, but the ones I have @320 sound perfect. Theres a difference with the vinyl source being the highs aren't as crispy and clear as the wav/mp3 version of the track, and of course the pops and surface noises are gone as well. A little EQing and u can't tell the difference.

They don't skip the same as a CD but on my alpine MP3 player it will either simply not play, skip a large span of time, or make some nasty noises. But yeah they are much worse, only takes a tiny scratch to ruin a large amount of music.

to be honest i went to crasher at kings hall on sunday, and i must of seen about two vinyl the whole nite, stevie g, gleave dobbin, ferry corsten, tiesto and agnelli and nelson, and only two vinyl the whole nite, the cd quality is awesome, you can do every thing on cd +more than what you can do on turntable(part from scratch like eddie hahahaha) so in the future i think it will be nothing but cd, espically if pioneer keep cumin up with better hardware:toocool:

Yeah, I would highly recommend not using actual MP3's to play out live, just burn them as audio tracks to a disc... Scratches that are seriously less than a millimeter can ruin several minutes of a track, and from my experience, a lot of times the track will simply stop playing for a while, then come back like 4 or 5 minutes (in the track, not real time) later...

Yeah, i've seen Ferry twice in the last 5 months (New Years and 4/20) and on New Years I didn't see him use one piece of Vinyl, and on 4/20 the only vinyl he used was "Punk." The one part I do hope you're wrong about is the thought that the future will be nothing but CD. Granted, you can do a lot with CD's, but I love the Vinyl sound (Hardest part for me of switching to CD), and I definitely feel as thought I can manipulate tracks more precisely with Vinyl...

^^^My opinion, not trying to make some outrageous claim and start a V vs. CD battle in yet another thread^^^

Oh wait, this already is a Vinyl vs. CD thread...
