Toronto not a bike friendly city?

I think the point that these car haters and enviro-nuts fail to grasp is that Toronto has snow on the ground 6 months out of the year.... but try telling them that when they are closing half the street to make a bike lane that no one uses.

Other recommendations:
* More bike paths and bike lanes.
* Policies promoting suburbs be less car-dependent.
* Traffic calming, car-free zones, and parking restrictions.
* Co-ordination of public transport with bicycling, including safe bike parking at stops, bike racks on buses, and accommodation of bikes on transit vehicles.
* Provincial funding for a mandatory cycling education course for kids.

and there isn't just as much snow in Montreal, where more people are biking?

good idea. Secure bike racks at just subway stations would be a great move, because Toronto's bike theft rate is a serious deterrant from biking.
But with regard to bike paths on the street, I do think they should create the demand for them before they start building them. |

if theres snow on the ground nobody can use the second lane anyways and they park on top of the bike lanes anyways.
bike lanes are good for everyone....... and half the street isnt getting closed, half is being opened to bikers when they build one. all cars do when theres two lanes is jokey for position with each other endangering eveyones life including their own. +1 to bike lanes and 40km limit.....
if u had any idea how much safer my trip downtown has become because of bike lanes. I used to almost be killed on dundas on a regular basis. |

They should have started that policy a long time ago.
The whole GTA is car dependant because this city has the worst public transportation. If they won't construct subways, at least create more RT routes. The city planners for the last 30 years should be shot. They probably believe that he'd have flying car and jet packs by now. Idiots.
I'm all for bike route. I hate riding my bike on the road i get paranoid that someone will hit me from behind |
