hey guys

soon ill be purchasing a used (2nd-hand) turntable. because of my financial position i can only afford a cheap second hand TT. next to that, it doesnt has to be a very new and decent one, im easily saitsfied, as long as i can spin an do my thing
soon, in some days or weeks, ill be heading off to the person who has that turntable for me, and ill test it then.

my question is; on what things do i have to pay attention to? where do i have to look out for? whats important to watch? are there any things i need to know in order to do a good test, so i know that what i purchase, is still good/in good condition/order/okay?

i have already seen a photo of the TT, it looked very good
and oh yeah, its about a soundlab dlp 1-r

Thats a belt drive- and should cost you about £20/$40 (thats what I have seen them selling for recently anyway). They are going really cheap, primarily because belts arent much good with time.
Check it starts quickly, stops quickly, check the pitch is smooth as you increase it or decrease it (no big jumps on the strobe) and see how constant its pitch is (again using the strobe).
CHecking the phonos isnt a big deal on these, as they have detachable ones.
Also check the stylus if it comes with one.

Get the DLP3R or DLP32R/S IF you are into soundlab stuff- direct drive and far better. Not much more cash

make sure the platter isnt bent and also check to see if there is any excess play in the tonearm. Also remember to hear it setup befor eyou buy! :)

test it for about a half an hour.
see if the arm isn't to loose.
