1. No he isn't talking about both. He's talking about producers. How can you only tell which DJ it is by an ID if it isn't their tune?

2. They don't go hand in hand. DJing is a totally different thing to producing, and the two may share no common ground whatsoever with one person.

So don't say DJ when you're talking about productions, because it's inaccurate and it makes you sound like an idiot.

yeh well ok....i like a dj who is brave enough to throw in some techno....some breaks or anything into there set to give some originality...armin hardly does this....its all one way....im not knocking him at all...i will still listen to his sets

What about PvD and his infamous Kick that he has overused for the past decade...producer wise yes

ummmm....certain deejays never stop one sound

Jeff Mills and his raw harsh techno sound
Steve Lawler and his tribal sound, tho he plays more prog tribal than he used to

i may sound like an idiot, but you are one.;)

I can spot most djs prety quickly... Not many of the bigger djs drop many armin tracks once in a while the classics...

the only ones that may give me much trouble would be armin / above & beyond / bond / hardwick since they all play the same stuff...

armins set would have "1998-1999-2000-2001-2002-2003-2004-2005" in it what ever u want to call it.

Go back and read again. He said a good DJ should only be able to be identified if there is a named ID to the track. Now he obviously means producer. How the can you tell which DJ is playing a random track from it's ID? Answer: You can't, unless he's the only DJ ever to have that track.

The only time it becomes a hinderance to a dj to spin a track that sounds similar to another track is when he spins something similar to an overplayed track. In your example, Adagio and Serenity. They both sound somewhat similar, but Adagio has been wayyyy too overplayed just like most Tiësto productions. Now, I do think each dj usually has their own sound. I can generally pinpoint a Ferry production, or an Andy Moor production, or a Tiësto production.

I don't necassarily harp on a dj for somewhat matching another djs unique sound. I only tend to get somewhat pissy if they start emulating that sound over and over again in their own productions.

Heck, sometimes you can bring together two producers with their own unique sounds and make classic tracks. Goureyella anyone? :D

Heh. First off calling Gouryella "classic" is debatable enough. Secondly Ferry Corsten has claimed that he was the one who did most if not all the work on the Gouryella tracks. So I wouldn't use that as an example to back up this arguement.

It's just sad because obviously Armin here has the talent to produce quality stuff but just isn't doing it. Back in his house days under the Armin guise, and with his works such as Communication / Blue Fear / etc ... he was at least coming up with original ideas and putting out a good sound. Now it's to the point where he's relegated himself to blatantly ripping off melodies and other producers' sounds to create hit tracks and move up in the DJ rankings. Obviously it's a business, and I respect that, but you can do it with a little more integrity than he has chosen to.

Anyone can "claim" they did anything. Whether or not their claim is truth is another thing. Though I would tend to say Ferry probably had more production management than Tiësto. Especially in Ligaya.

Tiësto was not at all involved in Ligaya. Ferry was solely responsible for that Gouryella production. :)
