hi TA! this is not spam or a roll call! I'm sorta new here (may have posted once or twice a year or more ago), so you probably dont know me, but may have heard about me recently, I'm tatgirl's job-searching roomie (thanks for all your help btw)...

I want your opinions on something I am involved with this summer, this may not be the best way to intro myself to the board, but it's really all I'm talking or thinking about these days anyhow. ok so here it is...

Northtek 2005 aka Teknival aka Freetekno 3-day free festival

I'm curious to hear what you know about it, or if you're planning to go, or if you went last year, or what your experiences have been either with freetekno or teknivals here or in Europe.

My first teknival here in Ontario 4 summers ago changed my life. I know that sounds a tad dramatic, but it's true. Freetekno changed the way I party and what is important to me. It's not that I dont enjoy a good club event on occassion, or dont appreciate international djs, but it's just affected my perspective so much that what I consider "fun" has totally changed.

I dont want to influence your responses, so I wont say any more for now....... but trust me when I say I'm not selling anything here.

There's probably not too many that know about this at all on here...

So here are some reviews from another board:

For all of you looking for that anti-commercialism weekend of camping 'rave' to fill the void of an Om-less summer, this may be for you.

Take note- this will be a FREE event, but it will be very 'renegade'- just showing up to the secret spot and throwing the party. Lots of community action & help is needed to pull it off too.

No big names, purely underground.

i went to this the past 2 years, and it's soooooooo much fun. It's definately one of the things i look forward to attending in the music. Amazing music, and amazing people, what more do you need?:)

nice! good to hear your positive responses!

teknival is kinda like wemf... in that it's a 3-day party, with camping and music... but it's very different. like... we had 15 stages last year with djs from all over the north west... a stage from ottawa, a couple from montreal, a couple from NY, and a few from toronto and others in the GTA... this year there will be even more. the idea behind teknival is that it's DIY (do it yourself) and anybody can do it. anybody can bring up sound equipment and setup a stage. anybody can bring records and play. anybody can bring anything and do whatever the they want. it's totally free. no applications, no proposals, no fees, nothing to stop you from doing what you want to do. it's an expo of me and you and what we love to do. be that art, make music, dance, perform, cook, teach... whatever. it's all good. AND it's legal! we're not breaking any laws! just breaking boundries and taboos. so bring it if you got IT!

here is the website for more info www.northtek.tk

and www.freetekno.toronto.on.ca

there's a free party mailing list you can get onto for teknival mailouts and other free parties like the freespace yurt thing on sat....

and being summer, it's gonna get busy. more free outdoor parties than u can shake ur ass at!
