Bar Ban in Entertainment District

Saturday night’s all right for dancing – but it’ll have to be in the same old spots.

No new nightclubs will be built in the downtown entertainment district in the next year, according to a bylaw rushed through city council Thursday by Councillor Olivia Chow.

Chow, who represents the nearby Trinity-Spadina riding, said the thousands of new residents in nearby condominium units already had plenty of noisy nightspots to contend with. Any more would be sure to drive them to distraction, the councillor argued.

She said the Toronto Entertainment District Association, which represents local restaurants and businesses, requested the moratorium, complaining that the ruckus drives away tourists. A typical summer night can attract as many as 50,000 barhoppers.

Police also welcomed the decision – their hands are already full most weekends with rowdy patrons who’ve had a few too many vodka martinis.

Chow also suggested coming up with ways to charge club owners for increased noise, litter, congestion and security problems their establishments create.

Oliva Chow should resign.

She is going to go after another federal spot in the election while maintaining her seat on council (as she did last year).

Not only that - but she sent free tickets (tax payer paid) to AGO to people in her district and excluded the rest of the city (who helped pay for the AGO and the free tickets).

Well, either keep going to the same place that they've been going to for the past year, or even better...

I'm assuming that also includes clubs caught serving to minors and trying to re-apply under a different name.

I like how they build a bunch of condos in that area, then people MOVE IN to that area knowing what's going on there, and then they start crying it's too noisy... that pisses me off!!! :whip:
