Oh, I agree that there are standards, but it still comes down to opinion, period.

And btw, going by the correct standards, Kirsty Hawkshaw is a very talented singer.

Did she think up the words for 'A fine Day' ?? Whoever did has some imagination :D

According to people that actually have heard her live she can't sing. I respect that she's your favourite singer, but until you've heard her sing outside the studio you have no foundation for calling her "talented". And that's a fact, whether you like it or not.

According to some people here she can't sing at all, so I have no reason to put any weight on whatever other comments they might offer concerning her live singing.

You can't fake high notes. If you've ever heard walking on clouds or blackout you know what I mean.

It was penned by Edward Barton in the 80s.

She wrote "Just Be".

please, stop arguing, go watch/listen to her sing live somewhere. i have recorded myself singing and have completely fixed it up to make it sound reasonably good. trust me, i cant sing for . most of pop music is done this way now a days. ashlee simpson anyone? of coure hawkshaw sounds arguably good on mastered tracks and the like, but please just go watch one of the vids floating around with her singing live. its uncomfortable to say the least. if my memory serves me right, i think she sung on some ty tracks in tiestos first TIC dvd. singing, i think, like most things based on opinion. take for instance, Bjork. Some people might say her voice is all over the place and just off key. Some people might say she has her own unique "style" and finese. but its pretty hard not to recognize, that in fact, she has quite a powerful voice. i have her live, and although it wasnt nearly as good as a mastered cd-quality recording, it was still clear that she had talent. yes, its true, bad quality singing isnt always attributed to talent. bad acoustics, awkward setting, etc...can sometime make for a bad performance. but generally you can still tell on some kind of level wether that person has a shred of talent or not. bring in mrs. hawkshaw. she sounds like all the time, except for cd recordings. now if you appreciate her on a cd recording and argue that she is good, well that is your opinion, because the evidence is there, you can indentify if she has any talent or not (when i say talent, im talking about the whole nine yards of singing), and arguably, it sounds like she has potential on digital recordings. please, please, please, and i cant stress this anymore, dont be the judge until you have heard her live.

i really apologize for my horrible grammer. its 6:58am and i havnt slept yet. im completely at loss for words, and would obviously have a better chance getting my point through if it werent for this damned sleep deprevation. i think my point is stated clearly, although a bit rough around the edges...

Obviously he wouldn't dare to do that, all his illusions would be broken....

Listen, I'd love to hear her live but I'm all the way over here in northern America and she's in England. I have no idea when she'll be touring the USA.

BTW, give me a recording with her singing live, so I can judge for myself.
Blue.
Look at other artists like Jes. She sounds great on vinyl but live she couldn't hold a note to save her life.

she had a nice voice.
while we first are talking about quality trance voices...

Eleanor Kenny (Ridgewalkers)
Colleen Kelly (Interstate)
Mavie Marcus (Andain)
Sarah McLachlan
Kirsty Hawkshaw (in Walking On Clouds)
Jes Brieden (Motorcycle) not very good live, but omg her voice sounds great on cd!!)

When I first heard ATRC I couldn't believe how over-produced her voice was, which is why it shouldn't be surprising that her real voice isn't like that.

As for your list of "trance voices", don't include Sarah Mclachlan, she's not even a trance vocalist besides the fact that she doesn't even have the voice for trance (but a great voice or other styles nonetheless)>

majority of trance vocalists seem to be only good in the studio. however, there is one that i vouch for..

Marcella Woods.

caught her live at knowwhere last december and OMG i was blown away. She has great stage presence and CAN sing live....video proof: right click save as

you'll have to download and view it in quicktime tho. excuse the poor quality, but for a phone recording, i think she still sounds damn amazing....earlier in the night she also was quick enough to realize that when she stepped out into the crowd, her microphone started picking up on feedback and backed away where the walls made a partition...while still singing 'liberation' and not missing a beat.

some pics:
