Is there a way to avoid customs service taxes? because when i was ordering records one time, i ordered 5 from the UK, and there wasnt any customs tax put on them. Do the customs allow some packages of vinyl to pass without charging?
Please let me know. Thanks. |

| When i ordered from juno one time, i ordered 11 pieces. They sent it out it two packages of 5 pieces and 6 pieces. I didnt pay customs. Kinda wondering if the customs were stoned at the time, or is it really true they dont bother to charge for small itmes. Surprisingly, after shipping and conversion, ordering from juno is cheaper than buying stuff here in town. |

hmmm...dunno if it's the same in canada
...but here for aus, customs won't collect tax if it's less than AU$50...seeing gst here is 10%, i think that means so long as the value of the purchase is $500 or less, then u won't get taxed...but if it's over, they'll tax u at 10%
anyway, that's my understanding from ordering radio control cars & bits from the states :):):)

when u say the service charge do you mean the customs handling fee? or do you mean the GST charged? Cuz well, if u get one(GST) then you will certainly get the other. Ive ordered from Juno, HTFR, Above the sky, chemical, sattelite, and this is what the lady @ the PO told me, is that for US orders, you will get taxed for sure(GST + the customs handling fee) for UK orders, you dont always get charged, and it just depends, Ive gotten huge shipments(12 records) and not payed a cent, where as Ive also gotten small shipments where I do get taxed....so I dont really know how it works. Im sure if you looked @ a customs page online, or asked @ the Post office they would tell you.
Now while its a pain to pay AGAIN @ the post office, we do need to pay on it, and I dont complain for the extra price too. The biggest piss off was getting a gift worth $5 US and me paying taxes And handling fee on it(fees worked out to be more than $5 so I bitched @ em.)
So in the end, If its from UK, then I think its an arbitray decision...also Ive been paying alot more taxes since Sept 11, before then, everything came to me quick quick, now its slower, always opened and like that...so I think this new precaution in the mail is having an effect too. |

Thanks jspot.
I dont mind paying the customs handling fee if its for large packages like may be over 10 or 15. When i ordered from juno, i got the records really fast, about 2 weeks. When i ordered from djmr in canada, it took about the same, 2 weeks. |

All I can say is that Customs over in Toronto have not been slacking at all, I've been charged GST/PST, handling fees from ordering 1 to 20 vinyls.
Fcuk this ...Especially when Juno sends me 12" via Fed Ex...I am freaking responsible for the god damn brokerage fees...
It seems that products manufactured in the US will not get taxed...whereas others will....
The rich is getting richer and the poor getting poorer..this is the sort of society they call democractic...my fcuking arse...pardon my language...it just pisses me off when I have to pay the extras...it just isn't fair...IMO. :( |
