So I'm getting a Powerbook

Last weekend my Dell P.O.S. computer died and, since I'm going to college in August anyway, I'm going to get my Powerbook for it a little early. What accessories or extra software, whether for general purposes or DJing, do you guys recommend? I'm not looking into anything as complicated as Ableton or FinalScratch, etc., but just some programs/software for practical use.

All via Educational discount on Apple.com

check out www.campusestore.com

I've seen ads for it at my college and they seem to have good prices on a bunch of software

PS. You did buy the PowerBook at educational discount, correct?

Yes I will be. Plus, the person I'm buying it from is authorized or something so that I can get a discount on Microsoft software for WordPerfect, PowerPoint, etc.

Also check out http://www.studica.com/products/

They seem to carry more music stuff (hardware and software) than some other educational stores.

apple/mac is only worth getting if there is software unavailable for windows on it. Every apple product is ridiculously overpriced

they say that apple is for music etc...

would not know tho... im thinking of getting a powerbook my self for dj use.

I have a 17" PowerBook G4 and I LOVE it. Highly recommend the Apples...

I have a 17" Powerbook and love it too. Ableton, Reason, Maya, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and Pro Tools all run great on it.

why would you want .mac? isnt it aimed towards computer newbies?

.Mac offers e-mail (ad free), online storage for backup, a homepage, the ability to sync your address book, bookmarks, mail accounts, mail rules, calendars, and keychains online. Say if you formatted, you could redownload all of them. Of you can download them on your 2nd mac, etc. Also gives you access to .mac-only software.
