its been cancelled again.... :whip:
Berlin, 20 April 2005 – The cancellation of the 2005 Berlin Love Parade was today confirmed by the organisers. The partners of Loveparade Berlin GmbH announced that there was no longer sufficient time to continue negotiations with potential sponsors.
“We very much regret that it is not possible for us to stage the Berlin Love Parade this year. We will do everything we can, via constructive dialogue with the State of Berlin and representatives of the economy and the media, to reach a solution which will enable the popular Berlin Parade to return in the year of the Football World Cup,” announced the or-ganisers. “If all those involved pull in the same direction and continue to be open for dialogue, the Love Parade will be back in its hometown in 2006.”
The organisers stressed that the Love Parade continues to be a worldwide export success and, as the world’s largest youth event, has tremendous appeal to people globally. Within recent months, there were millions of enthusiastic fans at Love Parades in Israel (Tel Aviv), Mexico (Acapulco), the USA (San Francisco - Review here) and Chile (Santiago de Chile - review here) amongst others.
“In the next few weeks, we will announce the new concept and the new make up of the management team”, said the organisers. Fabien Lenz, for many years managing director, left office at the end of last year.
The partners once again pointed out that the Love Parade had lost its status as a demonstration in 2001, leading to enormous increases in the costs of staging the event, which remains free for the hundreds of thou-sands of those who attend. This meant that it was no longer possible to organise the Love Parade in such a way that the costs could be covered. The generally bad economic climate of recent years and the reticence on the part of the sponsors arising from this had also contributed to the widening financial deficit. |
