technics help

ive played on technics only once or twice and 've just recently landed a gig out in town (where of course the club has technics). at home i play on numark ttx1s which are pretty decent tts however if i remember correctly there is a big difference between the way they handle vs. technics: when my records are off by just a hair and i need to slow the vinyl down just a notch or speed it up just a little all i need to do is give the platter a tap or a nudge where as on technics i remember having to apply alot of pressure to the platter to slow it just a little (to the point where i would have slowed it way too much or just enough but then the record would speed back up and be off-sync again) or when giving it that nudge just the slightest of touches makes the record speed up tremendously! so what do i need to do to counter this problem? how do you slow or speed up a record on technics tts when the records are off by just a hair?

Do you mean speed up or move the record forwards/backwards?
I slow the records down momentarily by applying some pressure on the label -part of the record(in the midle). If i want to move the record a bit forward, i spin it a litle by force(again in the midle).

i meant speed it up or slow it down. with my numarks to speed the vinyl up i do exactly what you said, and to slow it down i just drag my finger along the platter a little and voila! with technics however, i remember this process being alot more difficult then just nudging the vinyl along or dragging the platter. for arguments sake, the technics were really old so could the problem have been the magnets were worn or something like that rather than vast differences between tt performances?

weird.

r u sure u have ttxs? hahaha

my tt500s have much more torque than the techs and it shows. i can stop a tech platter way easier than my tt500s' platter.

ive tested this with a tech and my 500s right next to each other.
Chris d(-_-)b
That's how i do it. I think you just need to get used to techs. That's all.
Freak
i think you are thinking backwards

technics require a far lighter touch to get them to move either way than numark
Zild
Yeah Freak is right. The TTXs have a ridiculous amount of torque. Its much easier to stop the Techs platter than the Numarks. Easy way to fix this problem is to use the pitch to make your correction and keep your mitts off the record and platter.

yes i agree with zild. i used to own the TTX1s and i could beatmatch tremendously well on them using my hands to do the corrections. when i chucked them in for a pair of techs i literally couldnt beat match anymore. using the ttx1s for so long, you develop a heavy touch coz of the size of the torque. with technics you have to be extremely delicate. i couldnt get used to using my hands so i began riding the pitch. way easier, more accurate, unnoticable if done correctly, and girls will be ing impressed.

the latter point may not be true

well, you could either do a crash course, go out and buy sum technics before your gig and do some heavy practicing........highly unlikely

or...

but if your good enough to land a gig....you should be able to adapt to different decks...so you should be fine.....also you should buy technics so you wont have this problem again

youre right, the first scenario is pretty unlikely, and id like to think ill be good enough to adapt...but right off the bat? i think my chances of looking bad are pretty high. i can only pray everything will go smoothly...

i remember when i had Numark TT100's, the torque was just utter ....then when i got my 1210's it was just great i could hold the record without that god dam platter stopping underneath....and i could cue up and mix alot better....but the TTX1s have a stronger torque....you just gota try and have a more gentler touch with technics i feel....but you will be fine....its all in the mind

you said u have played on technics once or twice....how did that go??
and when is you gig?
