I'm planning to study abroad in one year and i'm thinking of either Cambridge, Oxford or maybe even University of Tokyo
but on the first two, i know that Cambridge slightly outranks Oxford academically, but if you had a choice which would you rather study at? which one has a better environment and just overall is a better place to stay at? I've never been to either towns so posting here i'm hoping someone who has will share his/her experience.
Thanks :) |

I'm from Cambridge, and I think it's a great place. The university is considered the best in the world, so you'll get a wide range of students from all over the place. The place itself is quite busy, and very traditional-looking. Not sure about the nightlife as I haven't been out and about much in Cambridge. It's quite an expesnsive place to live though.
I can't comment on Oxford as I've never been there.
:)
EDIT: You've got to be the best of the best to actually get into either of them. ;) |

| arent they really strict at cambridge and oxford expecting you to integrate into their way of uni life and study? eg not living a life of disappearing off to clubs every opportunity etc? or have i made that up? |

I'd say Oxford, for the following reasons:
1) I studied in Cambridge for 3 years and the nightlife isn't that good. Oxford's is definitely better.
2) Two of the best record shops in the UK are in Oxford. Cambridge is really bad for buying music (I'm assuming this is important or you as you belong to this site ;) ).
3) Oxford marginally has the edge, academically, from what I've heard.
If you go to either, though, you will be expected to work ing hard. Nightlife/record shops etc probably won't be your main consideration.
There's something to be said for sacking off either and going to a good London university instead, or Manchester.
Hope this helps! :) |
