Right...because 27+ million Russians aldo didn't die  |
That didn't justify taking over eastern Europe and installing totalitarian governments.
The war didn't end until both the fascists AND the communists were defeated (around 1990). |

And when Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Josef Stalin carved up Central and Eastern Europe to the Communist's for 50 years was a fair trade???
Furthermore the war was not over for the Russian's even after this in Eastern Europe. My Father has the Scars to prove it! |

And I question whether Communism is really finished in former USSR. This Putin is a tyrant as much as Stalin was. I think he will start a major conlfct very shortly if he keeps it up! |

They agreed to joint occupation of Germany, and Soviet occupation of eastern Europe, followed by free and fair democratic elections in those countries.
The Soviets broke their word, and the US didn't stop them because of the fear of a "hot" war.

You mean like how the Soviets ethnically cleansed Prussia of all Germans?
Or killed 50,000 Hungarians in 1956?
etc. etc. |

Something like that!
And what about the millions of Ukrainians that where slaughtered you never hear about. Only the Holocaust.
However neither one of these Atrocities are justified and they are a scar for all mankind to learn from. But have we really learned anything? |

The terrible crimes of communist regime were felt in USSR as much as everywhere else in Eastern Europe if not more.
But this thread is about soviet people who stopped Hitler. England and US did not join the war until 1944 when it became clear who was losing. 21 millions of soviets died protecting the rest of the world and defeated the army that already took over the whole Europe by that time.
So please, your comments about crimes of communist regime are inappropriate in this thread. |

The UK (and Canada!) were involved right from the very beginning, BEFORE the USSR ever got involved.
In fact, the USSR had an ALLIANCE with Nazi Germany until 1941! They split Poland and other countries between themselves.

The only reason why the USSR fought Germany was because Germany invaded the USSR in 1941.... otherwise they'd still be allies.
Those Soviets didn't "save the world," they just saved their own country, which is fair enough... but then went around enslaving other countries!
It wasn't until around 1990 that Europe was finally rid of totalitarian tyranny. |

And if Hitler had waited til summer to attack the Russians would never have won! This was his biggest blunder!
Thank God beacuse the world would have been a very different place right now! |

Actually he did. He attacked Russia on the 22nd of June 1941 at 4 AM. He just did not expect that it would take so long. He made the same mistake as Napoleon. |

USSR government understood that the war with fascist Germany was inevitable. One of the main reasons of the agreement was to prolong the peace period and prepare for the war.
Stalin himself was in denial though. He was a person with serious menthal problems. When Germany invaded USSR he spent 10 days in the room alone laying on the bed speechless. |
