I'm really bored at my office, and i wanted to tune into xtc radio right now, but i think i need windows media player or something. how do i get that? do i have to download it from somewhere?

to make life easier... woody, can u stop by the office and fix this computer for me?
dj_inferno
I would recommend winamp. You can get it here. After u install it, all u need to do is click the tune in 160k on xtc radio and it will start playing.
Miss Julia
ok, i downloaded both winamp & windows media player, and it's still not working. I have no clue what's going on. My only hope now is for someone to come out here and fix it for me!!!

I wanted to listen to jethro & larson's set on DI at 12pm today!! :sadgreen:

Best to narrow it down to either your machine or the site. Try tuning in another station and see if that works first.

Try http://www.etn.fm/ or http://www.di.fm/

I know it can be frustrating.

not sure what your work situation is like but maybe firewall? I know some corporate places are nazi and block all ports except web and some other stuff. Here is the winamp support site: http://www.winamp.com/support/

c'mon guys, I know there are several techies on these boards to help a hotty out! I was driving from lunch just today and there was a girl that had a flat tire with full on D's and there were 6 guys swarming her trying to help fix her tire or something..... Funny site to watch.

A lot of companies have corporate firewalls which block outbound internet connections on certain ports. My company does this too. As such, many ports that radio streams listen on will be inaccessible to people behind these firewalls.

Your company may not do this -- I don't know. But I can't listen to a lot of streams because of it, so I have to search for those that are on common internet ports (httpd, for example) like 80 or 8080. I know http://www.shoutcast.com has some trance stations that listen on 80 and/or 8080, so I typically choose those. I haven't cared enough to look for other "better" stations since my laptop has loads of music on it.

You can tell what port a stream is listening on by looking at the .pls file. For example, XTC radio's stream url is:
http://stream.xtcradio.com:8069/

That's on port 8069, which is not common, so I probably can't listen to it while at work either.

Shoutcast's trance station .pls file contains many streams that listen on port 80, which I am able to listen to. An example would be http://64.236.34.97:80/stream/1003.

Anyhow, this may not be the issue you're having, but it might be. If it isn't, ignore. But it's good information to know ************.

edit: just read you got it working. Lucky! :haha: I'm jealous you don't have the same issue I do. :stongue:

I'm not working in a big corporate office. The lady I'm working with has her own private office. It's like a small apt here!! :p

XTC just about always has quality music on it. Love it.
