I"m having a house party this weekend, and I will dj'ing.
I'm just wondering what kinds of tracks people would like to hear at a house party. Keep in mind that is not a club so the sound system won't be big. I'm leaning towards track with vocals ex. Just Be, You're Not Alone. Thanks for your help in Advance |

all depends on your friends! depending on the law of averages, most people are into hiphop, try dat.. i just don't hang with those peeps though i can play full on psytrance all tweaked to with the Fx and they drink it up!
hip hop or house or some sorta remix of some mainstream track like that breaks remix of Don't Fear The Reaper by The Blue Oyster Cult, or sommat. |

| Yeah, if your playing for the average college crowd types, then I'd keep it to some vocal, funky, mainstream remix stuff so you won't turn folks away. If everyone's into trance then go nuts! I wish all house parties were like this! |

Good luck,
my last house party in peru before i moved had a great turnout, practically a giant backyard rave.
easily 150 people, completely wasted.
play some fun stuff, but dont be afraid to give them a little more, and if they arent diggin it, just go back to the fun stuff.. test them, see what they are into. |

I wish I could find my "EDM Drives Local Man Insane" thread from a few months back... long story short, last house part I did ended with this just massive drunk ass dude hitting two girls, splittiing a dudes lip, and sending one dude to the hospital with a broken nose and shattered eye socket, all because he just wanted to hear some quote:
"in' 50 Cent!"
That's definitely not the entire story, but when it's all spelled out for ya it's basically what happened, any MW TA's remember that?
In any event, a really coole TA party came out of that, so I guess all was not lost, best of luck with your shin dig M8!

| i just mix in some sweet as trance tunes with some 80's and pop remixes. they get moving to the pop stuff and notice they keep moving to the good stuff. :wtf: |

| people at house parties usually don't care what you play, from my experience they're too busy having drug fueled sex to notice. My friend always tries asking people what they want to hear and he never gets an answer. I just play dark drum n bass and that always seems to go down well. |

| When i threw house parties there some that we HAD to have. House music, Rap and hip hop, and the secret weapon salsa/merengue. I hate rap and salsa... but you put salsa on EVERY no matter if they can dance or not will be going nuts! I call it the secret weapon cuz i would play it when people would start to lose intsrest. O yeah! |

Depends what you're trying to do...
Our last house party, I really just wanted to show people some good music. I tried to invite people that I thought would like it. I also marketed it as a "rave", so they knew I would be playing edm. I played progressive for like an hour, into house for like an hour, then me and a friend switched off spinning full on trance for the next like 8 hours. Some people didn't like it and they left or went into another room. But they just left more room for people who were enjoying it. We had the place packed until the police shut it down... |
