DVP Closed this Weekend ... ****!

May is one of those rare months that contains a Friday the 13th, and that means bad luck to a lot of people.
But if you’re a motorist planning to hit the downtown core this weekend, your misfortune will last for more than 48 hours.
The Don Valley Parkway will be completely closed from 11pm Friday until 6am Monday.
The shutdown extends from the 401 to the Gardiner in both directions. The traffic break is supposed to allow crews to conduct some major maintenance, including road resurfacing, asphalt and guardrail repairs, work on the lighting and even garbage pickup and grass cutting.
City officials know the closure will be a major headache for drivers, but insist they have no real choice.
"The work that we are doing this weekend on the Don Valley Parkway is important maintenance work required to maintain safe road conditions for all users," Transportation Services G.M. Les Kelman, notes in a statement.
"The amount and detailed nature of this maintenance work meant that a series of overnight closures was not a good option. Therefore, after careful consideration, the only feasible option was a weekend closure."
The roadway will be back to normal for the morning rush, although considering how dismal Monday morning traffic jams can be, that may not be saying much.

Pls take the extra time to leave home a bit earlier to arrive to where you are going this weekend. |

| Yes, this sucks for me who has to work 8-4 all weekend, lives at Lakeshore/Strachan and works at McCowan and 401. Bayview extension it is! This happens to me every year. |

Toronto is the only city ive ever heard of that routinely shuts down its major artery for days at a time so they can put up constuction barriers or cut grass. Why can the ontario MOT do it while not impeding traffic on busier highways but the city of Toronto has to completely shut down the DVP for the weekend?
Sometimes i really do think that Toronto is just a larger version of Sudbury. |

| I don't understand why they need to close it down all weekend. That stretch of highway is in pretty good shape and it doesn’t look like it needs that much fixing. The 404 north of the 401 is a different situation. It's riddled with potholes and is in dire need of repair. I don't see any repair crews out there. WTF!! |

The difference is that that TTC map was just fantasy, whereas the map I posted showing the new expressways is from the OFFICIAL city transportation plan! They started to build it (that's why the Allen exists) but the (NDP) politicians stopped it. :whip: |
