| Listen, if you're talking fine dining I say go to Bardi's on York and Front (if you can get in). There's a great Italian place called Little Pierre's on York and Richmond. Hys Steak House is a great place and reasonably priced (for the quality of food), it's on Adelaide near Bay (105 I think). Also there are several really good Bistros on King St. west of John.... there's some Italian place there... begins with an F but I can't recall the name... really nice. |

More sandwiches...Reuben S (on King St. east of Peter--good call on the location, Trick) best Montreal smoked meat in Toronto...abt. $15-20 per person, and you will not be able to finish the combo (unless you starve yourself before going, then maybe you can eat 1/2 a second sandwich ;) |

Spring Rolls (thai) - 40 Dundas St. W, 693 Yonge St or 85 Front St. East

My fave restaurants are definitely those off the tourist path.
Cafe La Gaffe - Very Quaint and intimate French/Italian restaurant on Baldwin Street
Select Bistro - French Bistro on Queen Street
Palucci - Italian cuisine on Mt. Pleasant
Crush - great wine bar on King St.
Kalendar - on College St.
Utopia - on College St.
Insomnia - on Bloor St.
Ferro - on St. Clair St. W
If you are looking to stay in the entertainment district most of the Bistros along King are good too. As others have mentioned ... Kit Kat, Hey Lucy, are all fine picks.
Looking for a fantastic breakfast or brunch place - Mitzi's or Mitzi's sister are the best in the city. You pay a bit more money for it but they are all gourmet breakfasts. |

For other steak houses, I would recommend:
Mortons (avenue and bloor)

no offense guys...but if Wayne Gretzky's and Milestones are what you consider "good" restaurants, you need to get out a bit more ;) Milestones is "ok"...WG's...um...bleh.
Without breaking the bank on *really* expensive places, here are some very good places I've been to in the last little while (west end, central, east, and one in the gaybourhood):
Habitat Lounge (Queen/Bathurst area)
- *incredible* food, upscale place...they even have a good house DJ spinning quiet lougey beats depending what time you go. Nick Holder spun their NYE party...now that's pure class :) One of Toronto's best known chefs, Greg Couillard, has been there for a little while now. I can't recommend this place enough...a bit pricey, but well worth it, IMHO

Cosmo Cafe (Carlton, between Sherbourne & Parliament)
- small quiet place with very good food (all made on premises)...menu online isn't that complete though...they have many daily specials.

Linda's (upstairs from Salad King, right by Eaton Centre)
- upscale Thai. Great food, excellent service, nice atmosphere. Make a reservation as it's small and quite often busy.

Hair of the Dog (Church, one block north of Carlton)
- pub type menu, but *much* better than the average place as they put a bit of a spin on everything.

FACK the bank...go to muthain CANOE...top of TD tower (King and Bay) PERIOD.
Nice place for the most expensive drinks in town: (my fave 1st date place) Panorama on top of the Manulife Centre (Bay and Bloor).
True, I don't go out much...and I hope you realize, MarkT that I didn't say WG is a "good" restaurant in general, just depending on how much of a fanatic her bf is; it's his BIRTHDAY remember? Everyone from outta TO doesn't know about this shrine... |
