emm. yeah.

i've been promoting minimally for a lil' while, and i basically rocketed the career of a friend of mine after i had him spin at a couple parties i threw. tonight he opens for Jose Nuņez from Subliminal Records, and Alex Alicea of Who Da Funk.

some other guy, who can't spin for is playing before him. but he's one of the ones throwing the event. me and my buddies were rocking some ch00ns here last night, and this guy shows up. he seemed to like what me and my other friend were doing, so we got a 9-10pm slot for a tagteam. no one will be there, but it'll be fun nonetheless. wish me luck.

i get to use 2x CDJ1000, 2x tech12s, and either a DJM600 or a Xone:92. not sure which one they have mounted atm. we're probably taking a new CDJ-200 with us, as one of my friends wants to burn an mp3 disc filled with loops and cuts, so he can do some 3 deck madness.

so again, wish me luck.

got there late. still spun a couple tracks. like 5 people there. whatever, was fun anyways. got to hit on this girl afterwards who was impressed to see me. didn't really get the time of day, but what else is new...

then that other guy began spinning. my god... respect yourself a bit and go home and practice before going to a club... playing ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooold . and mixing it quite badly.

then my friend went up, sweet ass set. finally, the main names got there. Alex Alicea began. he sucks. or sucked last night. mixing was off and his selection was quite monotonous and quite unimpressive. cliche dark ass NY tribal prog house. it got to the point where we actually left and missed Nuņez, just to get out of there. twas a shame with all the pretty girls, but i probably would not have gotten any action either way...

so... i didn't up. so now, i look forward to getting a real gig, if i ever do, that is. hopefully more pretty girls will see me spinning next time... :p

congrats man. 5 people or no people, its a cool feeling to finally play out. i definitely would have stayed around the whole night and worked the DJ angle with the girls there though. lol

yeah, but i'm a bit too reserved to go up and be like "oh yeah, i'm a DJ"... specially when even the ones who saw me spin didn't seem to care much, heh.

and yeah, i'm still deckless. i do practice a lot, at the expense of me wearing out my welcome at my friends' houses. ah well, that'll teach 'em to have DJ equipment around...

Good luck mate!

Don't worry about that too much. The first slot is a real crud time to play and people are usually to concious to start dancing with just that many people around.
The reality is that you are not going to blow the roof off the place in that time slot. But it is a good time to learn to get the feel for what is going on.

Cheers

oh, yeah. that i'm aware of. i had to earn my spot at my own house parties. thrown about 8 large ones, 100+ people. free entry to anyone who basically likes music and just wants to have a good time. even in my own house, at first i did not spin. afterwards, i spun the early slot whilst people got there. then i got the afterhours slot, which is a bit similar, energy wise, to the warm up, only with an inverse curve.

when you have 4 friends that are excellent DJs spinning at your house, not to mention all are at least 3 years older than i, you don't really feel like showing off unless you can handle your stuff. by the 3rd large party, which happened to be my bday, i took the peaktime slot, and had a very nice time spinning tech house, electro, acid and minimal. it was a great learning process along with my friends, and now we do tagteams, or 30min-1hour heats and keep rotating, to make it interesting. that way no one is stuck with a bad slot.
