Your best bet would be to apply for a student visa and take courses at a Canadian university. While at school work the job market.... if you get a job offer and have a student visa you'll likely be able to get a work visa once you're done school (note, a work visa is not required in order to work while on a student visa up to a certain income limit.... I don't know that limit). After attending school here and working here for a year or two after you'll want to apply for Landed Immigrant Status.... as a US citizen, educated and working in Canada you should have no problem getting this.
As for where to live that's a lifestyle choice. All three of the cities you mention are expensive. Toronto has the highest taxes (income and property) but lower costs for rent/property and grocery items then the other two and it has the most opportunity for a young man starting out in life. Vancouver has the lowest taxes of the three but everything else costs more. It's a pretty laid back place for a big city and probably a good choice if you're an artsy type. Montreal is by far the coolest of the three (don't tell any of the TOTAs I said that)... it's like a little piece of Europe in North America... laid back, cultured, with a great party scene. |
So I check out the universities first, right? After I find the one that has my desired courses to continue my studies (I'm already in college & would need to transfer), I would then need to apply & wait for the admissions letter before I continue? Could all of this be done online (sans the actual courses)? Plus, I hope to start at least by this September, but summer session would be better. I'm on summer break now, so what would be the steps I need to take? |

Big is an understatment.... they are cities unto themselves.... Woodbridge is a good example, if you're of Italian decent and make enough money to move to the 'burbs you move to Woodbridge. Malton/Brampton is where nearly all of the immigrants from the Indian sub-contenent end up. There are lots of them.
In the city itself, you're right... there are neighbourhoods that are mainly one group of immigrants or another. I wouldn't go so far as to call them ghettos as they are not normally economically depressed areas. It's actually kind of nice to have it that way because different parts of the city have their own unique character. | This side-conversation is beginning to crack me up. :haha: Is it _really_ like that there? |

Ghetto is a big word, we all know there's no ghettos in Canada :) (i'm serious).
Ali, you can read everything you need to know online, but you will have to send by mail your inscriptions papers.
Also, if you want to start this autumn YOU BETTER CALL THEM RIGHT NOW! Cause i think it might even be too late.
Summer classe is too late cause it already started. |

| Registration for next fall's semesters was done two months ago. You might still have a chance with late registrations (if the university you pick allows such a thing), but don't count on there being spaces left. |

I'll let the others answer for this, because I don't want you to believe that I'm preaching for my own church ;)
the answers should be unanimous:D |

WAY better than Vancouver. Kate had an almost impossible time finding a job there when she moved there, and within like 2 weeks in Montreal found 5 different ones. I guess it depends on what industry you're looking in though.
Vancouver and Montreal are two completely different cities and it's hard to directly compare them. Vancouver is a lot "newer", but lacks the historic background and character that Montreal has. The nightlife can't even be compared in the two cities; Montreal is just infinitely superior to Vancouver in every way when it comes to night life =P
That said, the beauty of Vancouver just can't be compared to Montreal. You have the ocean and the mountains there, with countless outdoor things you can do, and a much more favourable winter. The rain you hear so much about isn't nearly as bad as the stereotype indicates (and even if it were, I'd take it over -40 any day =P).
I love both cities, and ideally I wish I could live 6 months of the year in each =P |

As for hottest girls, Montreal hands down. Vancouver comes close though, but it's a very different type. In Montreal, the women doll themselves up a lot more and wear a lot more designer type clothing. In Vancouver, you have a ton of really healthy girls but the style just isn't as advanced as in Montreal (though it's a bonus that none of them smoke =P).
Pretty much the FIRST thing guys from the UK I work with said when they moved to Montreal was "Holy , this city is filled with ing hotties." Also, the girls in Montreal are a lot more approachable than the girls in Vancouver I find. It's not just the girls really, it's the attitude in general. In Montreal, people are probably more rude at the surface level (like, if they bump into you they won't apologize), but far more warm and friendly if you talk to them. In Vancouver, everyone is polite, but not nearly as "friendly". |

He can still apply an may get in. Laurentian University and Nippising will usually accept people right up until September... of course no one wants to go there. |

It really is. I make it sound far more cut and dried then it actually is though. There are areas of concentration for individual ethnic groups but it isn't as though all members of a certain group live in a given area and do not stray from that. People are intersperced everywhere with certain areas having higher concentrations of certain groups. For instance, there is an area of Toronto called Greektown... the area has a high concentration of Greeks (the largest Greek population outside of Greece), however, you'll find people of every ethnicity there. This area also boarders on an area of town that is heavily populated by Indians which makes a very odd mix... for blocks you can walk down the street and the shops alternate from Greek signs to Hindi signs (along with English)... it's pretty cool.
Toronto actually has people from all ethnic sub-groups save for a few tribes from New Guinea living in it. |

I bet it's because they are the worst places around, but maybe it's for other reasons...
Peace... |
