| woa vivid, I would really hate to live your life. After a while that whole chase for money drugs and girls just started seeming pointless to me, anywhoo, off the tangent. Thinking about the future seems to be the best motiviation for me, but since you already tried that, you might wanna get some peer pressure to help you, get your friends to bug you until you get all your work done. |

ok as for lack of motivation...im writing in again, even tho i should be doing math right now. one thing i have to say about senioritis, at the high school level, is that it is NOTHING compared to the end of the semester laziness that comes with college. high school may seem like a pain in the ass, but take it with a grain of salt- a little jacking around here or there isnt great, but it isnt terrible either. HERE it can get you kicked out no problem. and staying in is all a matter of motivation. in high school you GET taught what you need to know, in college you teach yourself, which is a complete pain in the ass.
really my motivation doesnt come down to money, knowledge or women, i think those are questionable reasons to do anything. Ok, maybe not knowledge! what i choose to put up with the i do in college is choices...as simple as that. if you dont choose to finish high school, thats fine, there are people that succeed doing that although not very many. the more education you get, the more chances you will have to screw up later if necessary. and it may sound dumb, but a little peice of paper insures that you will get more security and money just because you put up with some useless in school.
money - i find this a bad motivator because you dont need to go to school to get it. try drug dealing, construction or garbage collection. they all pay well and require very little book smarts. i wont say they dont require intelligence tho...money also sucks cause it doesnt insure happiness, no matter what you are led to believe. i choose school because i know i may find what i truly love to do, which will make me happy no matter what.
knowledge - this is a good reason to gget an education, but not for the sake to memorization or anything. there are idiots in college, and some of the smartest people i know have never completed high school.
women - COULD be a good motivator, but generally a better distractor. and i think there are 'good' and 'bad' ones no matter what the 'education' level.
again this is my jacked up look on life...hope it means something/ |

i had major motivation issues for 4 years..........did all....basically the concept I've come up with which remedies for me.......
is that existence is about stretching your mind in various ways.....and that also means work.........but work makes play so much better and guilt free.......
also......that ultimately we are creatures......that feel higher when we accomplish things.......and move through struggles.......
no pain no gain.......cliche's are often true........

this applies to many things......it makes you stronger.
this is how I've come to love and need some of the things my laziness makes me h8. I now h8 prolonged laziness in myself more than anything.

Doesn't it piss you off, Rob, to know that you're damned intelligent, but you lack the motivation to use it?
It does me... only I'm too lazy to care. :D
Anyways.. be cool! Stay in School! |
Heheh, harley yeah it does bro! i swear by that stuff! when you have ADD, and you're trying to concentrate on a problem on the paper on your desk in front of you, you'll keep getting distracted by the stupidest things - some kid goes to sharpen his pencil - you'll find yourself watching him the WHOLE time he's doing it.... you'll watch some kid walk out of the room slowly. anything BUT the problem. When you're on ritalin, you don't even FEEL like you're on drugs, but you feel very aware - you want to get things done. Thats the key. Wheneven i'd take that stuff, i'd get straight A's.
I don't like all that macho BS about people saying you shouldn't have to take a drug to be smart..... b/c thats not why you're taking it. You are taking the drug to maximize your potential. You are already smart, the drug doesn't "make you smart".... a lot of heated debates floating around by ritalin.... it also makes you less hyper and obnoxious, which is a big thing for me (well, the obnoxious part anyways.... LoL :p ) It makes you very serious about finishing what is at hand... i LOVE the stuff.... i think they should dish out ritalin pills with every bowl of cereal had in the morning. Hey, there are no bad side-effects that i know of or i ever experienced taking it.
But i don't want to make this a long essay - might get flamed for it! heheheh, :p :)

i know what u mean about the ritalin abt (DAMNIT! every time i write ur name i have to go check that it's ABT and not ATB...LOL) anyway! when girls have add, it's a bit different. i was definately a hyper active child...always runnin around and talkin all the time. but as i got older the opposite started to happen. i was just always day dreaming and forgetting stuff. i was always in a "zone". ppl would be talking to me and after they were done, i'd be like, "wait, so WHAT did u just say??" hahah basically i come off as an air head but im really not. i am highly intelligent, i just have to apply myself (as is the case for EVERYONE w/ add) im sure it's annoying to other ppl. my dad can always tell when im not listening to him and he'll be like, "YOOUU WHOOO JAMIEEE!" anway, i tried the ritalin and it DOES make you concentrate better, BUT...i felt that it made me hyper. it was weird. i was smoking like a pack of cigs a day when i was on it and it would get me kind of nervous. it's like mild speed (why do think these moron kids snort the stuff!) i read up on the side effects of ritalin and the most common one is nervousness. now the LAST thing i need to feel is nervousness, cuz i feel that way already without it. i have some kind of anxiety disorder i think...my stomach is always in knots and i've had several actual pannick attacks in the last few months. i have an appt. w/ a shrink on thurs to talk about that and maybe get on some xanax. so i that is why i try to stay away from ritalin. i try to use more natural methods. gonna seem cheesy, but oh well. i am going to sign up for yoga classes this week and i also take herbs like ginseng and ginko every morning. it also helps to eat right and have a regular sleeping schedule. eat lots of carbs (they give you more energy) and try working out or going for walks. they help you clear your mind. every day i just take my dog and a tennis ball out to this grassy area and play with him and chill there for like a half hour and and just THINK! i love to just think about the dumbest , it's fun...lol anyway, set a time aside for you to think that way u can focus on studying after u've had ur "time". maybe it'll work, i dunno....
btw, i am very impressed that you all are sharing your experiences and not putting on this front. i think that is really cool...most ppl are ashamed of having that sort of problem, and all of us, obviously aren't:) |

I was just like you when i was a child , i was extremely hyper active , always talking and playing soccer every single day ... but right after the puberty , i completely changed , i wasn't the same person at all , i was almost scared by everything (i still remember i couldn't go out of my house just like the others because i was scared to death of getting agressed by a thief or something) , i wasn't interested at all to make new friends or even hang out with my current friends , it was just weird . So i went and see a doctor , he gave me some Paxil , and a month later i felt really better , just to tell you that these kind of drugs DO work , and that if u feel like ur too happy or something , it's just that u are back to ur normal state that's all |

don't overdo the ginko and ginseng. IF you get nervous and get an upset stomach (like before exams - i used to get this bad when i was at school)try ginger: you can just chew on it, but it tastes like soap so you can get dried and powdered ginger in capsules... btw its also good for motion sickness (at least as effective as conventional drugs apparently).
Yoga and Tai Chi (or any form of Chi Gung) are good, cos they help you know your body/mind and control them yourself rather than relying on drugs/herbs if you know what i mean. |
