Ok, well I've decided to leave the fair and beautiful TO, take a year off and get to know a person whom so far I share a profound (I believe) connection with. We both decided to take a year off together, and move in. This girl is absolutely amazing, but that's a whole other story. It's a big commitment on both of our parts, but we've both realized that we have each other there for support, which is all I'll really need to feel 'at home'.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any good place to look for a job in Ottawa, or if they had anyone who would be willing to accept a resume?
Now to enjoy the TO summer before the frigid cold winter that awaits me. |

| lol, therein lies the problem. I am not, so I am looking for a job on the Ottawa side, rather than Gatineau or something like that. |

I can get you a job, doing telephone surveys, the pay isnt amazing but its a start. The location is Elgin and Slater.
As for Gatineau, I cant help you there.
For the EDM scene in Ottawa ---> www.xvi.com. Unfourtunatly the partiers in Ottawa dont use tranceaddict ! I am sure if you post something there someone could help you find a job. |

Don't most people move to Toronto from Ottawa for a better job market?
Moving somewhere for a girl is a bold move, especially with the futility of relationships.
Good luck.

| Thanks for the replies, even the bleak ones. Truthfully, I'm not the type of person to risk everything for a girl, and this girl is no different. I just want to get away from it all for a bit. I fully plan to come back to TO wihtin a year to finish school and well, it's TO. I've heard the job market in Ott isn't the greatest, and it's really my biggest fear, but I'm sure that I'll be able to find SOMETHING. At least I'm being very hopeful of that :D |

Most succesful executive types want to move to Ottawa for a public job; it's quite exclusive (kinda like moving from Manhattan to DC...not the same (haha U.S. market vs. Canadian) but similar).
Moving for a girl...wow...I can relate. I really hope you learn more about her, explore how you really feel about her, and pay attention to your day-to-day interactions!!!...LOL sounds like a social experiment, but to be honest I don't think I'd be where I am now if I hadn't packed up my bags and moved to Paris like I did a few years ago...I did it after graduating, though, which was helpful in my landing a job there, but you're in Canada so it shouldn't make that much of a diff. (Besides, no pressure to get into your career yet so I can see why this is a good move)...
If you don't mind my asking, supportive 'rents? (if it matters at all?) |

Again, thanks for the replies and the advice. To an extent, you could say it very much is a personal social experiment. It would be very difficult for me to explain it in anything less than a 20-page post, so I won't even attempt it, because even so, it would pall in comparison to what I actually feel about it. Have you ever had a moment in your life that you knew for a fact you had zero motivation to function? I've been like that for a while now. It's not like I'm depressed or have any questionable practices. But the thought of doing this, it makes me smile every morning, it makes me smile all day. I'm fully aware of the sacrifices I have to make, and the vulnerable position I'm putting myself in by trusting this girl. At the same time, I also know that when it comes to being on my own, I haven't got a clue, but I'm 100% motivated to give it my all, and we both know that we'll need each other for support.
As to what kind of job? Something in the tech/guv field would be nice. Currently my title is Technical Analyst. If any of you are familiar with Domino or Lotus Notes, that's what I do. |

Wow Lotus Notes...always a demand for experienced techies for that program (and Dominos server) in the business world. We use that at Scotia and in fact, I have worked closely with one of our tech teams that specialize in that software in my previous assignment.
Perhaps I could have helped (no openings at this point though) for your life in Toronto by sending your resume to my contact, but I believe you work for Sears (I recall from a thread where John (starsearcher) recognized you) which is also pretty good.
Ottawa doesn't have any IT staff for the bank, but next time I see my colleague I'll ask.
And I would love to get into more detail about your "experiment" when we get a chance to drive to Montreal together...;)
I'm planning to go for F1 weekend (June 10) and I will be taking my fiancee with me (who will already be in TO) so if you were planning on going there I could take you. |
