In quotes: Galloway showdown
Here are some of the quotes from British MP George Galloway as he confronted his accusers on a US Senate sub-committee.

# "Who paid me hundreds of thousands of dollars? The answer to that is nobody and if you had anybody who paid me a penny you would have produced them here today."

# "I have met Saddam Hussein exactly the same number of times as Donald Rumsfeld met him. The difference is that Donald Rumsfeld met him to sell him guns and to give him maps the better to target those guns."

# "You traduced my name around the world without ever having asked me a single question, without ever having contacted me, without ever having written to me or telephoned me, without any contact with me whatsoever and you call that justice."

# "Senator [Norm Coleman, committee chairman], this is the mother of all smoke screens. You are trying to divert attention from the crimes that you supported from the theft of billions of dollars of Iraq's wealth."

# "You have nothing on me Senator [Coleman], except my name on lists of names in Iraq, many of which were drawn up after the installation of your puppet government in Iraq."

# "I have never seen a barrel of oil, owned one, bought one, sold one, and neither has anybody on my behalf."

# "I know that standards have slipped over the last few years in Washington but for a lawyer you are remarkably cavalier with any idea of justice."

# "One of the most serious mistakes you have made in this set of documents is such a schoolboy howler it makes a fool of the efforts you have made."

# "Senator [Coleman], in everything I said about Iraq I turned out to be right and you turned out to be wrong and 100,000 have paid with their lives, 1,600 of them American soldiers sent to their deaths on a pack of lies."

I thought he was going to get taken out big style but they seemed to have ed up quite royally. Amusingly it seems that at least one of the list(s) they had him on for getting oil vouchers from the oil for food program was dated before the program even started! :stongue:

And the other "evidence" was from a guy in prison who can't be trusted.

I think Galloway is an arse and his little I love you Saddam speach was ty in the extreme. But they don't have any proof really.

Is this getting much air time elsewhere or just here?

it was broadcast live on fox news in america, clearly they where too impressed with his anti goverment speech. Saying he was "incoherent rant" or something.

i found it all very amusing.

he gave it socks infairness to him.

Yeah if you hadn't seen him before he could seem like he'd lost it but it's just the way he talks/argues.

I watched it live on the net (on the Senates website) and I thought Galloway was good when he was giving his opening speech but when it came round to the questions he looked like he was trying to dodge certain issues.

Galloway is a nob. He claims to be a socialist but I'm not sure what kind of socialist bases his support on Muslims! He's just an opportunist Islamist wanker
Dervish
Yeah I know what you mean about the questions. Not sure if he was dodging or just being a c-unt like usual.

i know everone says hes an opportunist etc. and ill admit i dont know the ins and outs of him, in fact i know very little. however, he did marry an Islamic woman in 2000 before the whole Iraq thing blew-up (literally!) so maybe his sympathies are genuine towards the muslims? i undertstand hes got a pro-palestine agenda too, so perhaps this is a further reason to take it that he wasnt being opportunistic in the election?

Yeah well the weird thing is he's been against Iraq since before it was fashonable (like when we and the US were selling them arms). So I think it is possible that he really was just trying to get the sanctions lifted.

lol i loved him. im an american and im actually taking his side. its about time the rest of the world put our government in its place when they try to test their limits. hopefully this will embolden others to do the same

Yeah and now she wants to divorce him.......hes a ing opportunist knobhead, and i bet he did get loads of money out of Iraq and has it stashed somewhere.....
svens_bath
yeah that true she did divorce him, but the fact that he married her in the first place shows genuine muslim sympathies perhaps? so not opportunist with regard to his condemnation of the war?

He's not opportunist cos he opposed the war, he's opportunist cos he looked all over the country and picked the constituent with the highest proportion of Muslims in it cos he knew he could play on their anti-war sympathies...
svens_bath
hmm..but does the fact thet he did so not suggest perhaps that he looked for a seat where the muslim voice, which he is sympathetic to, would succeed? rather than just using them for their votes, which opportunist would suggest. again i dont know the history of the man and whether he is well known for using opportunist tactics or whatever, but i just found it strange that everyone calls him opportunist because he sought out the muslim vote, when he clearly has shown a commitment to that cause before the elections. i would actually be genuinely greatful if someone could explain it to me
