Hey guys,
I will be heading over to London this summer from Australia for the party season and will be staying on there for a while to work from september. I have been looking around on a few job sites and spoken to some recruitment agencies but they are a bit reluctant to accept my application seeing i won't be available to work for a while.
I was wondering if any of you could tell me what the job situation is like in London at the moment? If i head over without anything lined up, is it easy to get a job in say a few weeks? I would be looking for IT work, primarily a java or web developer postition. Any help would be appreciated :)
Cheers,
Lisa |

lol, yes im a she :)
i've got a working holiday visa which basically allows me to live in the UK for 2 years and work for up to 12 months of my stay. after that, if i wish to extend this, i would have to apply for a work permit

yeah, i can do this but i was referring to when i start work as i won't be able to start until september and many employers are looking for someone to start within a month or so. i'm leaving Australia in about a month so can't really apply for a job from here :) |

Theres plenty of secretarial/data entry/Receiptionist/Bar/Call Centre work being that you have the EXPERIENCE some need a National Insurance number upfront, pick up a copy of TNT magazine, check out www.reed.co.uk and www.gumtree.com
Find a internet cafe charging £1 for an hour to surf around.
Once landed, get a phone and sign up with the agencies, ask for a letter proving that you signed up, so you can be approved for a National Insurance number(Tax File Number)
email [email protected] once you got that proof, thats an automated booking service for the NI number
BTW a working week is 42 or 48 hours not 37.5 so be mindful of the hospitalilty work :) |
