According to Wikipedia it's supposedly a Danish speciality, but that has never been my impression. Yes, we do have Danish pastry in Denmark, but it's not called "Danish" or something similarly nationalistic, and there's not, like, entire shops dedicated to it. I would say that it's about as Danish as coffee, newspapers, and chewing gum.
Further, when talking about it in Denmark, people usually laugh at the fact that it is being called "Danish" abroad - a curious oddity we think, rather than boast of pride that "our pastry" is so well known. And considering how darned proud Danes are of Denmark, that to me hints that we can take no credit of inventing it.:)

All this pish about "British Food" being crap, if you go to ty chain restaurants (not just McD, but "Bella Pasta" or Little Johns) it'll be . As will pub food, it's alright but it probebly came from a microwave.

Additionally all the different parts of the UK have signature dishes and so if you haven't tried all of them you can't say anything about "British Food".

Fish and chips is common food, comparing it to handmade pasta (which I do myself actually) with truffles (think some are £500 a kg) is quite silly.

E.g. have you tried Haggis (even that is tourist choice)?

Porridge is Scottish and hence "British Food", if you include drinks what about Whisky (not the gay American stuff the stuff that has EU name/origin protection)?

So if you wade in as a tourist and try stuff without knowing the good places you'll get . I remeber in London these Americans getting fish and chips at seriously one of the test chippys I've ever been in they were all taking pictures of it and stuff, the place was as far from a dencent chippy as you could be.

They probebly think all chippys are like that and they arn't.

If I went to Pizza Hut and got a Pizza, conclusion Itallian Food is ? I think not.

Aberdeen Angus (or Angus) beef is from Scotland, hence British food.

And belive me it's popular, if you eat beef and live in the US (and alot of other places) you've probebly eaten it as it's the most produced breed.

EDIT:
So if British Food is so is yours if it uses beef!

:p

i think its funny, cause in swedish (and danish to i think?) a "danish" is called "wienerbröd" which pretty much means "bread from Vienna"... really confusing!!!

Most off topic EVER!

Ok as I randomly browsed in here and currently living in this damn country called France here's my belief on the reasons of the No winning right now:
people want to get back at the governement that's something that has come out from a lot of polls there's a general distrust. Between all the strikes the loss of buying power minister being fired for having outrageous appartements at the peoples expense.
There's also a myth that there will be a Plan B. That's highly debatable that it'll ever come back around modified in concordance with the french peoples will. These people are dreaming and don't understand they'll be totally out of the loop.
The polls are also a very bad thing in this particular case I'm not doubting of their reliability but I'm certainly putting in question it's negative impact and excessive influence in modern day politics.

I wish I'd bought the Le Monde newspaper 2 days ago they always have the best satirical political cartoons. Basically the drawing was a guy and a girl and the guy asks his girlfriend " Do you love me today? " and the girl answers " I don't know, what are the polls saying today ? "
It's so representative of the french peoples opinion swinging on the constitution vote.

thats interesting, sounds much like the swedish EMU referendum, which really was a farse... cause really, the great majority of the population have no ing clue about even what monetary policies means!!! i guess this is turning out similar, with ppl thinking lots of things which arent true, voteing for something to protest the government etc
h0tsweetbabyd0l
today according a poll it was 53% for the no
47% for the yes

...the left party is divided ...they are not united which doesn't improve things at all ....
well we'll see the results but im scared france says no...the polls are not encouraging at all
