Correction: it has been discussed a million and one times now!

Well basically all you need to do is connect your mixer to the line-in of your Laptop and you are good to go :D . TOns of software out there including plain old win recorders to record your set (soundforge etc are recommended). You will need that cable (theres a pic in this forum somewhere of it, search for it) if you don't have two inputs in your soundcard. that's about it, if anyone else wants to fill in, go ahead....

I've got a m-audio firewire sound card, so I should be good to go with that. But what about the software. Can I get that free from microsoft or is it going to be something I am going to have to buy?

Thanks for the help so far!

Ive got it. Got it working right now. Thanks for the input!

i do my recording onto my PC. basically your gonna need either a RCA to 1/8 stereo adaptor or a soundcard with RCA inputs. then get a recording program (i have cakewalk pyro '04. not great. but for 30 bucks it isnt bad) make sure you have everything plugged in, inputs selected and there you go.
