Nicked this from another board! Can't wait to see what this is all about at sonar!!
:D
| quote: | The electronic music world is incredibly difficult to stay ahead of. What is branded cool one week, might be slated as dirty the next. Endless techniques are used by artists and their management to try to keep themselves beyond mainstream musical comprehension, and therefore slipping from the razor’s edge where legends can be crafted.
Richie Hawtin is far beyond the forefront of electronic music. His uncrackable image matches his flawless sound and genre pioneering styles. After 4 years, he is back with his latest transformation, evolving alongside technology to ensure he doesn't get lost in a world of dated sounds, average compilations and half-assed singles.
His studio in Berlin has been in full production for the third release in the DE9 series. Following on from Decks, EFX & 909 in 1999 and then Closer to the Edit in 2001 DE9: Transitions is the long awaited latest mix from Hawtin. Utilising the latest recording technologies and automation techniques, he is said to explore not only the traditional musical transition over time and amplitude (X and Y) but the depth (Z) in terms of space and perception - bringing you much closer to the edit so to speak.
Released in September of 2005 on CD & DVD, DE9: Transitions will be recorded within a fully immersive 5.1 Surround Sound environment, complete with high resolution audio versions and accompanying visuals.
Richie Hawtin will preview DE9: Transitions in 5.1 surround sound for the first time at Sonar, Barcelona (June 16 -18, 2005). |

will this be a tear apart, and reconstruction of tracks as was Closer to the Edit, or a plastikman LIVE type thing with the CTRL audiovisual console?
i hope it's the latter, in which case, the release would have to be DVD, which also extends how long 'the show' can go on for. :D
can't wait. |

| not 100% sure, i think it will be more to do with the ctrl idea, i can't see hawtin releasing something that's already been done. |

| seeing as how the first is better than most techno mix cd's, and the second is better than most mix cd's period, i'm really curious as to what the next one will be like. |

I hope it's another deconstruction.

i hope he does his plastikman CTRL thing. he had the Ableton Live team and the Touch (visuals program) team work together to make something new, where sound and graphic are related. so he plays the loop/cut/sample, fades it in with his 16 or 32 (dont recall exactly how many) channel console, and a graphic will show up on screen as the music comes out the speaker. just like you'd have EQs and effects processors to with the sound, he has that will affect the visuals along with the music.
freaky when you think about it. the plastikman LIVE 0.1 show at mutek was supposed to be insane, and richie rates it at like a 60% of what can be done. he has basically had completely new technology created, so even if it is his toy to play with, he has still to master its capability.
a full length DVD of richie going nuts with this would be unbelieveable. |

I liked Decks, EFX & 909. Haven't really paid that much attention to Closer to the Edit, but I think I should do that soon.
Pretty curious about the new album as well. I hope it doesn't get all TOO minimal. |
