Ok, I don't know much about Vinyl nor what the title of the track means so I was wondering if you could help me.
On nearly all of the CDs I own, there are some common terms in the brackets of a track.
Artist x - Title x (Artist x mix) - This I can understand. Someone has remixed a track by an artist in their style.
But when the following terms are used, I don't know what they mean. Are they about a style, or a technicality when playing them or what?!
Things like:
Is there a difference between a 'mix' and a 'remix'
Extended Mix
Original Extended ix
Club Mix
Vocal Club MixVocal Mix
Instrumental
Instrumental Dub
etc!!
Thanks in advance! |

extended mix - just that.. extended mix of the track
original extended. just that the original track extended
club mix. just another remix usually with punchier bass and beat or something
vocal club look above mix with vocals
vocal mix. with vocals
instrumental - no vocals
instrumental dub - no vocals and dub is usually it cant explain it now lol... its like less muddy in the high frequency range or something. |

| Usually dub means no vocals. Some artists like to be redundant and different so they use instrumental dub. |

| when something's a dub i usually take that to mean it's got nearly all the vocals removed but it's not an instrumental |

keyword: nearly
a lot of times other things have been tweaked as well, maybe its a bit darker, less melody, more bass who knows, unless it says straight up intrumental, 99% its not the same track as the original if it says dub. |

no. when a track is being finished, they do a mixdown. when someone else does a mix of the same track, they are effectively re-mixing the track. but the prefix isnt necessary, but is commonly used.
that is a remix. the other things like bootlegs and mashups arent technically remixes but a lot are labeled as such, especially by uneducated 3rd parties, such as kazaa users.
but it all doesnt really matter, when im working on my tracks, original productions dont usually take a suffix, remixes take the remix title, edits take the edit title, and dubs take the dub title.
its simple really, but doesnt really matter in the grand scheme of things, but can help you in a record shop, what cut to listne to 1st, etc etc etc........... |
