the difference in sound quality is phenomenal.
first off, as soon as the needle hits the record, without your speakers on, you can hear how loud the output is with the carts. i used to have to put my ear up against the carts to hear the music with my M35X, now I can hear it just regularly standing up next to the turntable.
once you've got your speakers on, the first thing you'll notice is the INSANELY CLEAR HIGHS. it sounds like the high gains were turned way up. the bass is also very much more responsive, in that you can hear minute changes in frequency and fluctuations more than just a *thump*. once you give the sound a closer listen, i'd say that overall, the sound is quite a bit clearer and less clouded. three dimensional would be a good way to describe the sound.
on the downside, i would say that record noise is highly amplified by the carts. if you're playing old records, especially during breakdowns, you'll hear quite a bit of record noise...but you'll forget about that once the track kicks back in! |
