Who else thinks U2 has gone to $h!t?

I went to see Vertigo tour about a week ago. It's a great thing that I got the tix for my birthday, otherwise I would have been pretty upset about paying for this "show".

I must say - I was a huge U2 fan in the day - I didn't miss a single US concert since Achtung Baby. Yes, even the crappy "Discotheque".

It's been an up/down experience with U2 but series of events led me to completely loose all desire to see them again.

1. The fiasco with the pre-sale: charging ppl $40+ for subscription to get priority tix??? xcuse me?

2. complete commercializing of U2 brand name. I mean I know - it's all about money, but f*ck, can you make it little more obvious? You got more money than gods themselves and you manage to sell t-shirts for $90 or more??? $140 tickets???? maaaaaaaaaan! greedy - I hope all of it goes to charity, which I know it doesn't.

3. bono's image as a "saint" - "i'm leading all these goodwill causes, so don't pay attention to the fact that I can't sing anymore".. .m ok.. He spoke most of the lyrics, where he needed to hit high notes. the rest of the songs were sung horribly as well.

4. the cheesy gesture with getting 40,000 + fans to flip their mobiles open in support of Bono's cause Du Jour with cheesy message streaming accross the screen. Pleeezzzz. most of the people in the audience were middle-upper-class white suburbanites who, for the most part, don't care about causes not directly involving themselves. Please please please - that was pure cheese.

5. completely unlistenable new songs. I especially detest the "Apple iPod" song (vertigo). Poor Bono could barely manage to hit high notes on that one.

"yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah!"

so, what say you?
