When is the rest of the world gonna follow? :)

Good to hear. :)

If you're waiting for Australia to increase foreign aid, wait until John Howard s off. The guy next in line for the leadership of his party has a brother who is intimately involved in foreign aid programs (specifically OxFam, which I donate to monthly) and I can't imagine that the opposition party (the ALP) would do any worse. Still, fingers crossed that we'll follow suit at some point in the near future...

(btw, the Scandinavian countries are already doing their part, so where's the rest of the money going to come from? Western Europe mainly I'd imagine?)

yeah, most scandinavia countries already have aid of over 0.7% of GDP, but i know sweden for example is aiming for 1% :)

but i guess the big improvments is in UK/France/italy/spain... Germany said that they couldnt currently afford it, same with portugal, but the rest i guess have to raise their aid to at least 0.5% of GDP (im pretty sure it was 0.5%)....
zig
Ireland had said it would up its aid to 0.7% of GDP, but then a couple of months ago the government said it wont reach this target and we will only give 0.5% of GDP, they gave lots of dumb excuses but it remains at 0.5% for the foreseeable future, but i dont get it, we are richer then we ever were, and if we cant afford it now, well when will we be able to afford it:conf:
