I'm going to head to Ibiza next summer and I thought about taking a week in Lisbon first before heading to Barcelona and Ibiza. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some insight on the scene and what Portugal is like in general?
Thanks! |

I've never been but my little sis spent 4 months in Spain and went to Portugal about 3 or 4 times and loved it. The spainish sounding lauguage, portuguese, they speak is totally different from Spain but you can get by. I think even a few days for sightseeing would be good. You can go down to the southern tip and see across the ocean to Africa.
Don't know if they have much of a scene though |

Yes but it sounds exactly the same so you can get messed up. They use a lot of the same words but they have totally different meanings I guess that is what I meant. Don't slip into spainish though it will sound like everyone is speakin it around you.

lol but the point is the language isn't called spanish as you mentioned earlier. portuguese, spanish, italian, all have roots in latin. i'm just needling the fact you call it a type of spanish :wtf:

I haven't been there in about 6 years but I have friends who have gone and had a blast.
Lisbon is nice as is Cascais (nearby) .. however big parties are few and far between.. there were some pretty big (80,000+ ppl) outdoor parties a couple of years ago in the north in Oporto.. see below.
Pics
A few weeks ago Tiesto played in Lisbon - pics from previous years' parties at the venue he was at make me drool (link)
There was a club in Algarve to the south (near Albufeira I think) called Kadoc that had some good techno DJs come in to play.. like Marco Carola and others.. plus the beach there is exquisite. |

Portugal is a great country in general in my opinion....
Last time I was there I did a road trip along Duro valley from Porto inland down the river to see Sandemans etc. On the way back I spent a weekend in a place called Povoa de Vazim on the Atlantic coast. I can't vouch for it recently (I was there clubbing in '97) but it used to be a stop over for the Ibiza DJs going to / coming back from the white isle. I went to the SuperBock (local beer) party night on the beach with Plastikman and Sven Vath - amazing, the club had a terrace to party on and watch the sun come up.
The best part about the club (other than the music) was the credit ticket system. You pay no money till you leave, they give you a slip of paper to get in, and every time you buy a drink you give the bar tender the slip and they add the round on. Only when you leave do you pay and from what I remember if you buy a certain amount of drinks the cover is free - novel idea!!
..oh here's an old photo of the club I took as well:

Would really endorse it as a stop off though!!

| Thanks a lot to you all for responding! I think I will definately have to look into this further. I'll have to figure out if I want to do a whole week in Portugal then Ibiza or maybe a days there then Barcelona for a few and take the ferry over to Ibiza? I guess I have a ton of time to figure that one out. Hey Pipe0007 what city did you see Ferry at? |
