I'm sorry, but what a waste of a night. My mind was set to hear a sick ass Sasha set, but he played for only 30 minutes, then Desyn played the rest of the night till about 4am. I kept waiting, in hopes for Sasha to come back on.... but by the time he did come back on, I was drained out and had to leave. I wish I could have stayed longer, cuz I'm sure Sasha threw down some sick tracks like he normally does, but my body was telling me to just go home & sleep. |
Wow, you took the words right out of my mouth! I brought a few of my friends who had never seen Sasha spin and told them to get ready for the night of their lives. Sasha came up for a few mins...and then bounced. We saw Desyn jump on (as I had expected from having read that he'd be the special guest here on TA)...but we just kept waitttttting and waitttttting and waitttttttttttttttttttttting but A) the music wasn't going anywhere and B) it was already 4-something and Sasha was nowhere to be found! My friends (and the fans) were all freaking out that he wouldn't come back. There were so many people on the dance floor trying to convince me that Desyn was Sasha...it was hilarious!
We were absolutely DYING by 4:30 from not having any music to keep us pumped through the night. The back outdoor patio straight turned into an EDC-style rave carnival with people laying drugged up all over the floor and stairs and the music pounding retardedly. It was from dope feel-good house music early in the night to crap-ass "lets bust out the glow sticks and vicks and blow this joint!" rave music (IMHO).
Sasha finally came back on and we tried our best to stay but could only make it through the first 6-7 songs where he was tag teaming with Desyn. I kept thinking to myself that something amazing would happen if we just stuck around but it was just sooo progressive (read: too progressive for 5AM) and neither of them did anything to kick the feel back up in the party.
I'm going to erase Saturday night out of my head and remember the first time I went to watch Sasha at Fundacion back in February...it was THE MOST memorable night relating to electronic that I had ever had...and I think it'll stay that way for a while.
Maybe next time Sasha, maybe next time... |

Just because its not 135BPM doesn't mean its not good music...Sasha and Desyn were perfect Saturday. I dunno what you're talking about when you say Sasha wasn't on till 4am. He opened up at 12:30 for about 30-45 minutes...then tag teamed with Desyn for awhile...then played a whole hour himself from about 3:30 - 4:30 then some more tag-teaming and then a mix of both.
The club was still packed untill about 5:30/6am. Desyn was SICK. Trentemoller tracks...housey stuff, electro, and dark dark dark prog towards the end...he got Sasha to play daaark.
I dunno whats wrong with you guys...seriously... |

^^^YUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I brought a couple of my friends too that have never seen Sasha. I kept telling them how SICK Sasha is, and that they will be blown away.
They left at 3am, cuz they couldn't take it anymore.
Whose ever idea it was to have Desyn play the headliner slot should be FIRED from the Avalon staff. |

You would have to have been extremely drugged up to have the energy to stay untill 6am.
People came to see SASHA for the last night of his residency.... they didn't come to see Desyn. They should have had him play after Sasha or something. |

| Well I gotta go with clovis and noree on this one. We got Sasha/Desyn the day after you guys and it was one of the best nights of my clubbing life. Desyn played arguably the best warm up set i've ever personally heard. Then sasha came on and played the most funky dirty electro i've ever heard. I'm even more stoked to go see sasha/porter in atl in a few weeks. me what a night. |

My roll died at like 5am and we stayed till 7am. I did have a 24oz Rockstar in line to get in :p
When Sasha and Desyn were tag teaming up front it was amazing. They barely said anything to each other but the mixing was almost flawless.
I guess we just have different opinions...but I thought the tracks they played were deep and dark, beautiful stuff especially on that sound system. I recognized 3-4 tracks Sasha played in his last essential mix aswell, at the end Sasha played "Hella Good" but with some weird dark vocal sampled over the beggining...and he messed with it alot in Ableton...as he did with alot of the other tracks he plays.
The fact that I had a very nice roll was certainly a factor...but...I bet you 100$ that if I had been stone sober I would have still stayed till 7am. Sasha blends music in such an artistic way...its just unlike any other DJ. After hearing Ton TB trainwreck through the night at heaven...I mean...you just cant compare it. Sasha is on another level. His whole intro was insane. I couldn't tell what tracks he was playing because they just seemed to melt into the next one every minute...he slowly changes synths and basslines...its just not comparable to anyone or anything out there right now.
I respect everyone's opinion, I can understand that the night was not as bumpin' as some other sasha nights...or like his Orlando set...but I still think he only plays amazing music...

Who's talking about BPMs? Like I said, the most amazing night I ever (again...EVER...) had at an electronica event was Sasha in February. I know exactly what kind of emotion he channels through his music and how it makes people feel...I've felt it. I just thought that for a final farewell he could've stepped up to the plate and played a little more. More time at notebook was all I was asking! The people there were there to see SASHA finish up Fundacion...not Desyn.
I do agree though that when they both were tag teaming it in the 4-something A.M. that it was amazing. They didn't say a word to each other and it just "worked". Desyn's what-seemed-like-forever solo just didn't keep me pumped enough b/c I could've easily stayed til 5 or 6. My friends were all bummed by 4am (I could've sworn that's when Sasha finally got up there) and they just wanted to leave...so we did.
Oh, and we all downed the new 36 oz Rockstars in line...thank god for those ;) But I'm with Julia..."long story short...I hope Sasha comes back to LA soon"!!!!! |
