i use gilette custom plus with only two blades. i shave down, then up. i have a conair shaving cream warmer. works good. you could pick that up at any drug store i believe.
afterwards, forget the aftershaves and creams. *Pat* a very hot wash cloth on your face and your neck.
i do that also right b4 bed. i never get ingrowns.
give that a try. |

aaah sweetie, then you will be happy to learn that i am a soap and candle maker. I actually have shaving soap in my line. I use the refill bars myself on my legs and under arms. After using it for a few days, you will already see fewer nicks and bumps. Here is a brief ingredient description on the shaving soap i made:
COCONUT OIL (Rich in lauric acid, which is known for being anti-viral, antibacterial and anti-fungal. It also creates a hard bar that is rich with lather) PALM OIL(Contains a high level of the tocols (Vitamin E) which are powerful natural antioxidants); RICEBRAN OIL(Incredible source of the vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids and antioxidant nutrients); SESAME SEED OIL(Used for eczema, psoriasis and mature skin. Contains excellent moisturizing properties and also used to help fade blemishes); JOJOBA OIL(Highly effective conditioner, moisturizer, cleanser, and softener for the skin. Remarkably, this oil is virtually identical to sebum, which is secreted by the human sebaceous glands); CASTOR OIL(Has been used through out the ages as a natural therapy to improve assimilations, eliminations and circulation; especially of the lymphatic system); SODIUM LACTATE (Makes this soap more moisturizing); ALLANTION (There to heal any cuts that may occur and to sooth razor burn); BENTONITE CLAY(Insures a slip that decreases razor drag and protects the skin); GROUND OATMEAL (Soft, mineral rich, and able to soothe inflamed skin). Also added to this recipe is ALOE VERA JUICE(acclaimed for its moisturizing, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties). |

i like using a mild exfoliant every few days. i have two favorites:
St Ives Gentle Apricot Scrub

Neutrogena Oil-Free daily face scrub

for everyday use, I use cetaphil - it's the best!!!!

i rarely use lotion because it clogs my pores. but if you have to use lotion, get something light for sensitive skin that doesn't have any perfumes or dyes. |

| I used to get ingrown hairs from shaving too. I've tried creams, exfoliants, all kinds of facial masks. They probably didn't work for me b/c I was probably using them in the wrong way or at the wrong times so I can't help you there but, if you can, shave less often. The more often you shave the worse it will be. Nowadays, I let my beard grow for about two weeks, then go to the barber shop and have my barber shave it. I've had smooth, bump-free skin for years since I started doing that. When you don't shave for a while, all your ingrown hairs get a chance to grow out and your skin gets a chance to heal. After your skin heals, try shaving, not necessarily every two weeks but, a little less often. Or you could get laser treatment to stop your hair from growing alltogether. :p |

Wow, 2 weeks, you must regrow very slowly. If I wait 2 weeks to shave, I look like I belong at a Phish show, not an EDM event. Also, it wouldn't go over so well in the office.
Another thing towards the original question that he hits with the barber shave is to try using a steamed towel like they do there. It opens up your pores and makes your hair softer, therefore easier to cut. |
