Shin Splints Quick Fix

If you get shin splints around bone in front of lower leg, 100 MPH Tape works wonders. Just tape one side of muscle, pull towards shin, then tape it against other side of muscle on other side of shin. Point is, you're holding the muscle against the bone more tightly with the tape where your normal ligament connections have torn. Allows you to continue your exercise routine.

Don't know why I came up with that gem, but hey, I just did PT in the rain with a couple 100 MPH patches to ease the pain - not the rain.

pulling off the tape at the end sounds like pain
is 100MPH tape a brandname or did u make it up?
i get shin splints, but im thinking rest isbetter for cure, your treatment is just palliative

Army name for Duct tape. Tape your muscle to the bone. You can feel the instant relief. Leave it taped 2-3 days before you pull it off. No big pain. It's not like pulling chest hairs or something. You can exercise with it since it's not letting your muscles tear any further from the bone because it's holding it in place.

interesting method, i'll try it sometime perhaps... get shinsplints all the time. but doesn't shin splints also involve some tiny microfractures/damage to the bone as well? (could be wrong, but that's how i understood it...)

for that matter, any quick fixes you can recommend for patullo-femoral syndrome (runner's knee)?

I haven't heard someone call it 100MPH tape since my dad was in the army... like one hundred and fifty bajillion years ago.

Shin splints are a precursor to stress fractures which are really bad, so you need to fix the shin splints before they get worse. If you go to a doc for shin splints and still need to train... or exercise, he will give you cold pacs for the shins and tell you to cross tape that thin white medical tape over your shins. That crap doesn't hold up worth a damn when you sweat. 100MPH tape holds up against anything and does a far better job to boot. Remember to leave it on a day or two, showers np because it won't come loose.

I don't run, and can't run no more with a dead sciatic nerve on one side, but still get a few knee pains. Slow it down is all I can recommend. Most docs will recommend walking vice running anyhows to avoid the impact related joint injuries. If you gotta run, at least run on a softer dirt track instead of concrete or asphalt to lessen the impact.
