Tutorial Request (DJ Tiesto - Orange Theme) [sample inside]

I had a little break from producing but here I am back at work. I have never done a remix I have always just created songs from scratch. One of the main reasons was I just couldn't get the sounds i wanted. Thats why i'm learning how to program my own sounds in the various VSTs. Although for someone like me who is still coming to grips with different functions trying to create a sound I have heard is proving somewhat difficult, considering I have relied upon tweaking presets up until now. What I want to acheive is the freedom to hear a sound and know pretty much how it was done and be able to create it myself, as like many producers in the same boat as me browsing for sounds takes up FAR too much time than it should. Anyway...
For a start I was going to try and recreate CygnusX - Orange Theme (Moonman's Orange Juice Mix), and see if i could get the sounds by programming myself, i did try and i got about 20% of the way there. But I thought if someone could explain it would make alot more sense then.

Im pretty much in the same status as you, so i dont know how to recreate that sound.
But there is a FLP for that tune, btw its Cygnus X - The Orange Theme hehe, i think its recreated using 3xosc in FL, dunno if this would help or not to see how the sound was created. I had it long ago but now i dont, been searching for it for like months, anyway if i find it i'll put it up here. |

| the dirty sounding bass sounds like a sawtooth bassline. Make sure you have a synth with at least a couple of oscillators and set them down a few octaves (could try one lower than the other). Its then a case of messing about with the phase, Low-pass and resonance. |

What synth do u, personally, use for something like that?
Any insight into the lead aswell anyone? |

God, why is every track suddenly accredited to Tiesto?!?!
You are trying to reproduce Cygnus X - The Orange Theme (Moonman's Orange Juice Mix). It's featured on three separate releases of vinyl.... Tiesto merely played it a lot.
(Moonman is Ferry Corsten by the way) |

Apologies, I was merely saying what the filename says, DJ Tiesto, glad you corrected me.
Ok now thats cleared up, back on topic, I dont have reason unfortunately. Any ideas about the sounds? |

| how do you make presets? im decent at tweaking them.. but like where do you start to create on yourself?? do ALL those presets just come from a tweaked default sound the synth makes?? |
