hi,
i was wondering is there anyway to make your own sounds in malstrom as it is a grain synth, so this means it takes like milisecond sample of the sound or somthin like that.
for example the STARS patch, so obviously i want to make my own type patches so i can produce my own sounds instead of just designing the sounds.
what format do they need to be in if this is possible and how can i do it. because they can get refills so offcousre you can do it then.
what program?

if I get it right you wanna take some new "grains" and work with those?
it's not possible...the "grains" are hardcoded so you can have only those which are included and play around with tehm |

i know it is a complicated method, but you say its hardcoded so then how do other company's make refills of grains. |

well i found out about a refill packer on the reason site, but is there a place where it explains the format of grain and wavetable synth in depth, i know search is my friend though.

grains are made in a similar method to using recycle - just at an insanely higher resolution.
in a nutshell, a sample that adheres to a particular frequency will have a repetition of some sort in it's waveform. creating a grain requires marking these repeats as loop points, so the graintable synthesiser can stick to a certain point in the sample's time, and move along in any direction without distorting the original pitch. to make one, you'll need to mark each point on the waveform. eg, a 1khz tone will have 1,000 loop points per second. hence the reason why malstrom has a set and unexpandable amount of graintables to use - because they're so complex and difficult to make (all the refills out there still use the included graintables, just with different and sometimes ingenious usages).

| u can't use the refill packer to make grains for the malstrom. All you can do with a refill is put in a load of samples in wav/aiff format as well as pics and reason patches/songs. |
