Soundcard vibration???

I know, I know. I did a brief "search" and I didn't really find anything that matched the question I have.

I installed a new soundcard about a year ago and had no problems until I changed out my CASE. Now....everytime I try to record through a mic, I get a ton of noise from what sounds like the fans running in my unit. I've stood as far back as I could and still I get the same result. Do I maybe need to try tightening down my board, or does anyone have any idea why my sound card is doing this? The only think I can think is that either the board is just loose or maybe I have too many fans running?

Short of yanking out my new soundcard, I really don't know what to do from here..... HELP!!!!!!!

don't know the answer to your question but I kinda support your avatar. Not that I'm gay though ;D. I support adoption for faaags too.

about the question btw, did this occur recently? like inte 5-mins-recently? in that case maybe you should let it rest for a day. You a thought though. Or you could move your sound card to another port.

Hey,

I had this problem too when I was starting out. The problem is not that your microphone is picking up the sound from your fans. It's the lack of earth and feed on a standard mic input of any soundcard.

Try earthing your computer by putting the mains plug into an earthed socket. Or if you don't have one, just connect the metal casing of your computer to a rediator or something.

If you really want good quality recordings, you need to get a good microphone with Phantom feed. Which means their is a 45 Volt charge running through the spool of the mic. For this you need a mixer, they are quite cheap. Get a Behringer. And use the line-in input of your soundcard. This will get you studio quality sound. For better results than that you really need a booth.

All in all, for a good mic, a mic stand and a mixer you will pay about 350 Euro's. But then at least you can say that you've got profesional quality recordings.

Good luck,

Nick
