| i have been djing for 2 years, now im learning to produce some trance/house tracks i understand how to use the software and to program the synth(not really good tho), (currently im using reason 3.0) the problem is everytime i try to create a track its always sounds like a , to much looping, i have no musical background, but i know little bit of music theory, is it to late to learn a music instrument such as piano and bass coz now im 20 years olds and busy with my animation school. any advice for me guys what should i learn actually? |

My advice would be keep at it and it's never too late to learn, especially when you younger than 75.
That being said you should just experiment. I don't know how long you've been producing, obviously, but I think you should try to copy as much as you can in the beginning. Don't read too many tutorials for a start, read them a bit later, although a little tutoring is good of course.
But you will get there. |

For 3 months I would open and close Reason, only closing it 5 minutes after... I was just down and all over the place. Out of no where, I slowly started importing midi tracks from http://trance-midi.tk for fun, and even though I made the most curdled of cheese remixes of the bar or two that they give you, I still learned so much in that session that would've taken me longer to learn on my own. Right now, I can't produce my own music, but I can remix other's since I haven't learned how to just go crazy and let the feelings flow, plus I don't feel I'm ready!
What I would do if I were you, is take midi files of songs you like, assign instruments, and fool around with them. Slowly, I've been making my own collection of leads, basslines, and misc. stuff that I like which make the remix your own. I can show you some of the stuff I started off with, and I got laffed off to -1 but never give up because you'll be back with meaner stuff :p!!
I started with some hardstyle parody stuff because that's all I could really do with reason at the time lol:
http://digital-menace.com/ug/Bob th...rage Remix).mp3 (I'll spare you from the Ghostbusters remix)
http://digital-menace.com/ug/Filo and Peri - i95.mp3
http://digital-menace.com/ug/lucid.mp3 Phynn - Lucid meets NES meets chipmod
and some of the newer stuff..:
http://digital-menace.com/ug/max graham.mp3 Max Graham's 'Automatic Weapon' (just a cheap dupe of the bassline)
http://digital-menace.com/ug/reflek...eh remiks!).mp3
I had never taken any piano lessons or music theory (which would really help), but you slowly start to intuitively feel how things should be, what piano key will make what sound, make your own piano roll remixes, and so on :>! I talk to much :x |
